A good stainless steel grease I can buy at Canadian Tire

I use a synthetic bearing grease from CT. Have the same tube now for 5 years. Will probably still have it when they bury me.

I only chose synthetic because of it's properties in below freezing conditions (they don't change.....up to -34 it sez on the package); not for it's regular performance under heat. Mark explained it already.

Very neat little gun. I remember seeing these in the 80s. Would be interested in hearing how it performs.

I tested the Backup. The weather was terrible so it was more of a "how does it function" test.

I fired 5 rounds of Norinco ball through each of my 4 magazines. The three stainless AMT mags worked fine. One black non AMT mag would not feed from the mag past the feed ramp.

I fired 60 rounds of Norinco ball and 20 rounds of PRVI HP. There were no failures or stoppages with the ball and one failure to feed past the feed ramp with the HP.

I fired a couple of groups of ball at 5 yards, two handed/isoceles, firing as fast as I could while using the miniscule sights. The groups were like this.

Judging by the way the pistol sits in my hand I think that it will point shoot low for me. I'll try this on my next visit.

I had heard that they can bite like a PPK so I wore a shooting glove and didn't feel the slide on my thumb web. The recoil seems very manageable despite my having read many accounts of the harshness of blowbacks this small.

The trigger pull was fine though I was concentrating on making sure my grip activated the grip safety.

Overall it functions very well and I think that it would perform as designed at 5 yards.

I tried some targets at 25 yards with the ball, 2 handed/isosceles and was only able to get 2 - 3 rounds per mag onto a 8.5"x11" sheet.

Any lube will work. I use 5W20 synthetic motor oil on all my pistols including my Automag III and LAR Grizzly and no galling whatsoever.

This is all I use.

I use it on my 1911's, Sigs, Glock, AR, and all of the bolts on my hunting rifles. It takes the heat, does not gel in cold and stays put where-ever you put it. A little goes a long way.

One liter of Synthetic oil will last 100 lifetimes. I also use Marvel Mystery oil, one swipe down the barrel after normal cleaning. First shot is always bang on.

Frog Lube grease has been excellent in the hardware of my kitchen window. Seems fine on the guns I put it onto, but it has a pretty low melting point.

That's a neat little gun, Geologist! If you need another one, let me know. I haven't even taken mine to the range, and I doubt the previous owner, who bought it new, ever took it shooting either. Only one mag, the box ... some papers.

For miniature .380s, I prefer the locked breech action of my Mustang Pocketlite, which is smaller, lighter, has better sights and lots of mags available. Nobody wants to sell theirs though. I shoot a mag or two every six months or so ... that really doesn't warm up the Frog Lube too much.

Thanks gunzik. I really like mine. I need to find a spring for the safety as it doesn't lock in the safe position but is a range queen so no biggy.

I also posted about the Backup on The High Road and a US poster sent me three mags and wouldn't take any $ for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sent him the biggest bottle (1 litre) of top grade maple syrup I could find to say thanks.

So now I'm awash in the mags.

It is a great little gun and for what it was designed to do it is great.

Your US poster buddy contravened ITAR by sending you magazines. Unless of course he is a licensed exporter. I wouldn't go around telling too many people about that story.

An explanation would be nice.

...um, ok. I've tried it and don't like it. It gooped up my glock. As you seem dissatisfied with anecdotal statements, tell you what, go spend $60 yourself and give us some objective data to rely on? (sheesh, try to help a guy...get sh1t on for it, relax plinker the guy's from out west...deep exhale)
