A great day out with some buddys shooting gophers :)

Decided to help clean out some rodent infested fields in southern Alberta at farms that are very particular about who shoots on their land. We have been going to these farms for a few years now and are trusted. Went with a local, a friend from work, but forgot to invite my other buddy from Calgary.

We all use .22 rimfires and all Ruger 10/22s. My 10/22 has a 10" barrel, my others buddys use a stainless heavy barreled 10/22, a SR22, and a 10/22 50th Special.

So many gophers but the grass is getting a bit too high now but we still got lots.

They don't poison anymore much so gophers are everywhere and thankfully so are the the hawks again.

If they're particular about who shoots on their land, it's no surprise they have gophers.

Looked like a pretty safe place to shoot from the pictures.

Last time I was shooting gophers in Alberta the regs had a section where it is called implied consent in certain situations.
Any of the Alberta boys and girls know anything about this or can shed some light on this please?

I tossed my copy of the regs along time ago and have not had the inclination to look up the current regs.

Grass getting too high is going to be really bad around here after 100 mm of rain. Gopher call makes them stand up to be counted.

Yeah been doing it for 30 years I miss using my AR.

Yes the long grass is making it hard to see them now. Be nice when the haying starts and it exposes them again. I was toying with the idea of using a pintail or pealess whistle to imitate them. Anyone ever tried it?
And yes poisoning them according to the landowners place I shoot them on was made illegal a few years ago in AB. I believe they can still do so in SK though as my neighbour across the road did his place three summers ago I am told and there are none around his place any longer. They are slowly coming back in the neighbouring fields though so may not have to travel so far to get good action soon.
