a great tool to aid in skinning

X2....I picked one up this year as well....my knives are all new,but just need a minor touch up every now and then....this sharpener is the ticket for sure in my opinion....simple but effective

The Old Man started making custom knives. They're made of ATS 34 and hardened to 60-61C Rockwell. He's building me one right now. He builds with about 25-30 patterns for blades and has said that he will modify a design to incorporate any combination of his handle and blade designs.

He's a hunter so his knives are designed for hunting. They tend to be around 3 1/4" blade but handles that fill out your hand and fit well.

I'm not trying to hawk knives here so don't nuke the post (or me) for talking about this. Just thought I'd let my fellow gunnutz know about them and give them the option to call and talk to him about the knives.

Contact information is as follows:

He hasn't got a website yet or many pics but I have a few that I can provide to people who are interested in seeing them. PM me for the pics. I was supposed to take more pics when I was out there on holidays, but we got too busy chasing birds.

I haven't done a moose with one, but based on the heat treating and the results another knifemaker he works with has had it should. The other guy used a knife in bear camp in the spring and did three black bears without resharpening

His policy is that if you buy a knife and aren't happy with it he'll buy it back from you for the purchase price.

I Don't know what he thinks he's gonna do with that Hammer

Maybe you need a good knife. A Blaine Parry custom knife maybe.
Does he do a Russel Belt Knife clone :?:

Price :?:

thnx...........SC

That one hasn't made it's way to the pattern board yet.

The price is $250 which includes a leather sheath like the one in the pic. The one shown is his own design however you have a choice of that style or a traditional vertical belt loop style. He makes the sheaths himself. The only operation he doesn't do at his own shop is the heat treating. He does that with Ray Fehler in Regina.

Here are a few pics. Keep in mind this isn't an exhaustive photo catalog. These were his first knives and I believe that they're all sold, except the Natural Micarta handled knife. The first one I took, the others I didn't so the pics aren't as good. The flash really bollocks' them up. I intended to take more pics while I was there. You'd think a month would be enough time to take some snaps. I've tasked a friend to take photos of the pattern board and I'll have them soon ( I hope). Sorry the pics are so big.

Sorry about the size of the pics. I cropped them as best I could.

I have one of these too and it is great. The only downside is that it takes LOTS of metal off. Note the metal shavings after sharpening. I was trying to find one and several shops said they no longer carry it for this reason.

I have one of these, and they are great for quick fix-up's in the field...
Lansky is even better. Finish up with a few swipes at the leather strap to get the burrs off, and you are off to the races.
Was just to NFLD this past week... They used a handy dandy Box Cutter to get through the fur on the moose.... If it gets dull, throw a new razor in it, or snap a tip off...
They are pretty handy to skin an animal as well... I like them... simple but way effective...
