Well, my trophies arrived from RSA in December. While I was down to the farm we set to invading my Uncle's foyer and hanging the trophies. Thanks to his gracious donation of space the animals can hang in an appropriate place.

Some of you have seen the big box in other threads. Here's my brother and I digging about in the box. This was the first day I got to Saskatchewan. We ended up hanging the trophies on the 27th of December.

And me rooting about. I think I was digging the horns of the Kudu and Gemsbok out of the box.

I like to call this picture "The Kudu Death Grip". I tell ya, those beasties are some hard to hold up against the wall while the peanut gallery gives their opinions of the placement.

After the Gemsbok was hung we set to getting a place for Mr Blue

And finally a place for the Blesbok

And the group photo.

The Kudu shoulder mount was more or less 6 feet from brisket to horn tips! The Gemsbok wasn't much less. The Kudu, by the way, has 47" horns and the Gemsbok is 41" on the long horn. All you first-time safari guys should keep that in mind when planning your trip and planning where the trophies will hang. The foyer has a vaulted ceiling of about 12 feet. Think the trophies look great in such a big room because they don't have to hang too close to the ground nor the ceiling. They fit in the room without overpowering it.

The astute among you will notice that there are only four trophies in these photos. I also took an Impala and a Springbok while in RSA and when we first cracked the box my dad made some comments that he thought one or two of the "small ones" would fit in their house. I'm glad I thought about it because the four "bigger" trophies took up a lot more space than I had anticipated. I think that the Impala and the Springbok look great in my parents' living room. I'm also a big fan of the wall pedestal mount on the Impala. It certainly won't be my last wall pedestal. A springbok collection of wall pedestals would look great.

And the Springbok. The painting is going to find a new wall to hang on. Both will move when I get a Buffalo as I plan to have it mounted with a left turn, staring at my dad when he sits in his chair.

Very cool , you got me thinking i need a trip to the Dark Continent.
Who did you go with, whats the outfitter or PH name, and would you go with them again?

just awesome..i guess you were like a kid in candy store when the crate arrived..
how about a better look at the deer in the third pic..
i think i got a woodie at the sneek peek of it:eek:

Very nice!

So, how long did it take them to complete your mounts?

(and when are you going for your buff' ? - back to RSA or somewhere else?) :)

I was impressed with the mounts, but I have to say, I'm even more impressed with your giving two mounts to your parents to hang in their living room! That really is a thoughtful gift, I am sure your parents take every opportunity to friends and family about your hunts in Africa.

Cheers
Jay

Don't make any mistakes...I'm not loaded...just a government employee. I just saved for a while to get the money for the trip.

I went with an outfit called Constantia Safaris and it was booked through a friend that runs DDD Safaris. I'd go to Constantia again. We had 2 PHs, one that owns Constantia and one that has recently gone out on his own as Camelthorn Safaris.

Not sure who I'll go with for Buff. I've looked at a few outfits (there's always the 24Hr hunt) but it's still up in the air. I'm figuring on Spring 2009 for a buff hunt.

And I used my Ruger M77 RSM 416 Rigby for everything.

I didn't get any pics of the deer in my uncle's foyer, but there are some muy grande mulies there. Next time I'm out I'll take a few for you deer maniacs.

who is/was your taxidermist? i only ask because iirc you went to africa last summer and you already have all your mounts? and very well done from the looks of the pics.
my FiL is still waiting on stuff from 3-4 years ago....

They look great on this site as well, my wife is saying NFW on the vaulted ceiling in our living room, I'm not sure what we will do with out kudu and gemsbok when they get here.

Those are all fantastic. Whoever did the taxi work did a really, really good job!

Hard to chose a favorite, but I think I like the springbok & gemsbok the best!

All the taxidermy was done by Red Dune Taxidermy in Jacobsdal, South Africa. I think they did a very good job as does my uncle who's foyer they have invaded (he used to do taxidermy back when you still had some spare time in the off-farming season).

We dropped our trophies off in the middle of April and they were in Regina by the beginning of December. Pretty impressive turn around from what I gather on other forums.
