Well, my trophies arrived from RSA in December. While I was down to the farm we set to invading my Uncle's foyer and hanging the trophies. Thanks to his gracious donation of space the animals can hang in an appropriate place.
Some of you have seen the big box in other threads. Here's my brother and I digging about in the box. This was the first day I got to Saskatchewan. We ended up hanging the trophies on the 27th of December.
And me rooting about. I think I was digging the horns of the Kudu and Gemsbok out of the box.
I like to call this picture "The Kudu Death Grip". I tell ya, those beasties are some hard to hold up against the wall while the peanut gallery gives their opinions of the placement.
After the Gemsbok was hung we set to getting a place for Mr Blue
And finally a place for the Blesbok
And the group photo.
The Kudu shoulder mount was more or less 6 feet from brisket to horn tips! The Gemsbok wasn't much less. The Kudu, by the way, has 47" horns and the Gemsbok is 41" on the long horn. All you first-time safari guys should keep that in mind when planning your trip and planning where the trophies will hang. The foyer has a vaulted ceiling of about 12 feet. Think the trophies look great in such a big room because they don't have to hang too close to the ground nor the ceiling. They fit in the room without overpowering it.
The astute among you will notice that there are only four trophies in these photos. I also took an Impala and a Springbok while in RSA and when we first cracked the box my dad made some comments that he thought one or two of the "small ones" would fit in their house. I'm glad I thought about it because the four "bigger" trophies took up a lot more space than I had anticipated. I think that the Impala and the Springbok look great in my parents' living room. I'm also a big fan of the wall pedestal mount on the Impala. It certainly won't be my last wall pedestal. A springbok collection of wall pedestals would look great.
And the Springbok. The painting is going to find a new wall to hang on. Both will move when I get a Buffalo as I plan to have it mounted with a left turn, staring at my dad when he sits in his chair.
