You wouldn't believe it if you listen to the talk around a gatta campfire, but I work a bit these days, so less hunting time, but I'm doing more 'serious' hunting when I can, no more reccy hunts and looking for spots... I go where theres deers.
I had wanted to go hunting Satdy morning before having a bit on Sunday , so I eventually got out of bed at 9, got in my Cams and headed off into the chosen valley I wanted to walk into,## all foggy at home but clear out a fair few Ks away, beauty!# this gave me a good feeling, good motivation for finally, getting out of bed..
I parked the hilux and got my rifle and day pack out, rolled a smoke and eventually set off, with intentions to contour into that wallow I mentioned.
possibly the best ground iv hunted as far as vision goes for state forests, lots of sign but no deers, an hour later an proberly a K in, Honk-# just as I had my mind on something else briefly-# Bugger.
never seen that one an didn't follow it up , did cut tracks but didn't study, kept on trucken..
sat down for a bite after a while, anda drink , over looking a decent black berry hidden wallow
Eventually walked into the wallow for a look,,,,,,
looked good but nothing super fresh..,# wasn't the Wallow initially thought about, so set off to find that one (thinking id walked past it)# some time later I popped up to the area, once you see it, cant ever forget it, You can just imagine Stags, walking in dinosaur motion , descending off the slope behind..# dayumm!
Anyway, Maybe the odd Puma aswell.....
TBC
as I went passed the puma tracks and off into the valley floor, before returning up a ridge not far from where I first was at the wallow (read- above the wallow,)# I heard some thumps of a Wallaby, once I seen it , black shape moving off- I was back at ease and glassed a bit, before walking off quietly a few meters and stopping again, thought the wallaby had gone but about# 5 minutes later a few more thumps and it changed direction and departed quietly this time, I think this time the Thumps alerted the Deer I was about to see sneaking through,# the Wallaby was Grey , this guy was Dark, but a picket fence between me an him offered no opportunity to get a glass on it, I raced forward and a bit wider to get a look back up into that direction of the slope, he must of paused, then moved again and I picked it up, maybe could of pressed the trigger but rushed at best, so waited, had the gun up ready for a chance, still nothing presented
he was walking away up and out direction,# as I lent into my scope some gum leaves got between my eye and the scope!!# bugger so I decided to go to the next tree forward and rest on it, aiming in the direction I picked up the deer, still with mature trees between us I waited to the Left of them and whispered-- "Walk up hill buddy" , that next few steps he turned uphill and I had a great steady aim on hes base of neck, without wanting him to turn down again, I sent the LC6 trigger snapping and it wasn't until the Smoked cleared that I seen nothing-
I heard nothing.
So I ran forward about 10 meters but remembered NOT TO!!# so I stopped again and listened, slight breeze making the trees shake gave me adrenaline , heart was racing.. I didn't want to miss and I didn't want to wound this deer ! or have it get away!
after 5 minutes I heard bugger all to be honest, so I thought I would run it hot and stalk into the last sighting of the Deer.....### 60m aways I rekon, so I stalked an each step I became more nervious,# before finally becoming almost stressed as the time had passed that it could be half a mile away by now!
using my binos I glassed the above slope... nothing. no movement, no deers, no noise!
its now 12:30
finally I get up 3/4 of the slope and to my amazement, The Deer has literally Fallen in its tracks...... Game Over-
I'm Bloody Wrapped..
