A light rifle....

Why are you selling it ? Did you try it out and it did not meet your expectations ?

It is a 30-06, and there is that FNAR 308 Competition rifle at Irunguns, i bought it thinking i may like a light rifle should wait for a 308... Anyway it is a good deal for someone who want a BINB, unfired one.... Nothing else... JP.

Fair enough, it's too bad you didn't test it out before selling. I was looking forward to seeing what one of these could do, as it's a bit lighter than my current hunting rifle. However, they seem to be a bit of an unknown quantity, so to speak, and I can't justify buying one myself just for the sake of a little bit of lost weight, when I already have excellent accuracy.

Did not shoot it but one thing is for sure, my 10-22 is heavier than it... JP.

Mine is grouping in the 1.2 " to 1.5 " range for 3 rds. The barrel heats up quickly as expected and with almost all loads tested the first two rounds will virtually make one hole with the third being a slight flier. I'm not expecting MOA or sub - MOA from this rifle nor did I want it as for my hunting its not necessary.
Accuracy has steadily improved as the round count increases so I'll seriously test it after another 80 or 100 rds, and for all I know maybe I'm already getting the best accuracy... who knows ?
I'm comfortable shooting it either offhand or off the bench, but others have likened the recoil to that of a 300 Mag.
It will put the first two rounds from either a cold clean barrel or a cold fouled barrel to the same aiming point, which is ok as in the field I'd probably not get any more than two shots at my quarry.... if necessary..... I should mention here that it has not seen factory ammo, against my religion..
Its certainly not a pretty rifle, if anything somewhat ugly because its a purpose - built rifle, just meant to do the job.
I carried it for a day in knee - deep snow, -10C and I hardly knew it was there.
In summary... Do I like it ? Yes. Would I buy it again ? Yes.

Kevan,
Are you shooting the m24b or the m20b ? I am on the fence, as I really like the 30-06, however the 3\4 lb lighter m20B in either 7-08 or .308 is very interesting as well. Good to know about the cold bore shots as well, I would not be shooting rapid fire 10 shot groups either. Not sure if there's much difference, but I'd be looking at a full stainless as well.

Mine is the 24B, as I understand the 20b would be the short action for the 308 length cartridge.
Have you checked out their website as I'm not certain if they make a stainless...... maybe they do.
When I'm shooting groups I space my shots but a chap on another forum told me to fire a shot and pick up another rifle, shoot a group with that and then fire another shot with the Forbes, again repeat with another rifle, then touch off the third with the Forbes..... in other words he thinks I'm not spacing my shots enough.
Maybe he is right as he showed me a group that was one ragged hole with a 165 Nosler.
Everyone has their own theories and thats good, a person is never too old to learn something new or try something different ?

The back page in the catalog does show that they are available all stainless, but whether anyone has any in stock or if it's special production is another matter entirely. You are correct, the model 20b is a short action. With my hunting rifle, I do sort of like you, I fire two relatively quick shots, then let cool completely. It's like you said, it's the first that really matters, but you may get very lucky\unlucky (depending on your point of view) and get a second shot.

The man in the know on our side of the fence is Clay @ Prophet River.
He will know precisely what is available and also what will be available in the future.

Pretty sweet rifle, too bad it's a .30-06! ;)

A Sheep / Goat hunt is on my bucket list and the clock is tickin' ( 68 here ).
I wanted a lightweight rifle that has good reach which the '06 has and also the ability to handle a heavy ( 220 gr. or heavier ) bullet in case of unwanted encounters.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think it was a good choice.
Over the years I've sold my others, 270s, a 280 and a 280 AI because I didn't feel like packing the extra weight.

It is a great caliber for a hunter, but myself just prefer anything in 308, look like this gorgeous FNAR Competition, it is not made in 30-06 or 260 or 243, it is made in 308 for one reason, it is the most versatile caliber on earth for all applications, i dont say that... Just at looking at the industry you see it clearly, that it is the prize chosen caliber... My Forbes 24B 30-06 will find a good home because it just spell quality and utility... JP.
