I have a pre 64 winchester 94 it is in great shape no extra holes and all original. i would like to use it as a hunting rifle but dad says i should sell it cause ill ruin it hunting it. i would like to know what it would be worth? if its not much im gonna hunt it.
 
if you use it just be careful. You should probably get something a little less rare for banging around with.
 
No idea what it's worth ...

Personally, I think that is a gun you should take care of, not use as a fire poker, shovel, etc.. while hunting, and it will serve you a very long time, as well as being one of the nicer rifles in the hunt camp.
 
Good i wanted to use it when i bought it. i had no idea it was close to rare even.
Now i just have the coolest bush gun out there! Thanks guys.
 
Pre 64 Model 94's aren't really a big deal, mostly that's just fall out from theModel 70's. People have latched onto it though, and jacked up their prices and expectations accordingly. Pre war would be something I would go easy on, but not much later. In the 70's quality drifted some too, but they are still serviceable rifles. - dan
 
Unless that rifle is truly mint, or nearly so, hunt with it. They are workhorse guns, made to hunt with. Treat it well, maintain it, clean and dry and oil it if you get it wet....just as you ought to for any rifle.....you will not ruin it.
 
How many digits on the serial number?
Four, five, six?
Over seven, give'er.
No sentimental value?
Not great great granpa's.
You said you bought.
Use it and feel good about it.
Look after it and pass it down.

Given they made over 8 million of the things, I wouldn't really call it rare. Even if it's pre-64 that usually gives it an extra $50-$100 on the used market.

I have a NWT Centennial Model '94 with the gold plating and fancy wood that I inherited from an uncle. He shot it and hunted with it, and I do the same. It's a great shooting rifle. Enjoy it guilt free.

WTF do people do to their rifles while hunting? I hunt with everything I own and have managed to not destroy anything so far. Take a little care while traversing heavy bush, wipe it down if you get rained on and don't throw it on the floor in the back of your truck without a case and it should last for decades. Yes, it will collect a few scratches and marks, but it shouldn't look like you dragged it down a gravel road behind your truck just because you actually took it out into the bush to use.

I have a couple of old 94's that I pack in rain or snow,wipe them off now and again you are good to go.They are meant to be used.
 
Well it really depends on what it is!
Since all the info the OP has given us is pre-64..................................:rolleyes:
My opinion is if it's a short wood, or about 1950 or latter, it's value is simply that of a good hunting rifle.
Use it & enjoy it.
If it's a long wood then thats a diff matter, if it's in minty shape you might want to hang it up, someday it likely will be worth quite a bit more than the $600 or so it might command now. If it's got some faded blueing you aren't gonna hurt it hunting with it some more.
Old long barrels are great hunters if the blueing is gone from the reciever, that's where most collectors draw the line.
 
it was made to be hunted, use it for sure, don't be rough on it, but definitely use it for what it was meant to do. ball park $400 give or take. Enjoy! I love mine, easy to carry. Mine is a keeper forever.
 
its built in 1959 only one scratch on the but stock and a rubbed mark on the barrel where it rested in the guys safe. What was the differance between pre and post 64
