Hey,

Went out to the range for the first time this year, the usual sighting-in and friggin' around with the winter purchases. Brought my Rem VTR 597 for some instant fun becuase supposedly it was ready to roll...then the ejector disappeared.

I've seen the links and posts, 'get the VQ extractor' and seen some good advice from another Rimfire specific site, as in, 'Sounds like you got one of the 597s that suffered from the "Loose Extractor" production run. usually if you call remington, they'd send you everything you need.'

Good stuff, I will get on it, in the mean time, can anyone direct me to a video on the breakdown/disassembly of the VTR? It comes with the regular Rem 597 Owner's manual, and shows the removal of two allen key bolts on the bottom of the receiver, but on the VTR the pistol grip is where the rear bolt should be. Take the pistol grip off first?

I'm not much of a tinkerer, only on an as needed basis, a video of the dissasembly and of the extractor replacement would be great!

Also, anyone have this happen to them? Did you in fact get results from Remington, or did you contact your local dealer? Etc.

Thanks!

You have to remove the pistol grip first, then the stock. After that the 6 screws on each side of the receiver. Then the trigger group can be removed that will allow you to now remove the guide rails, springs and the bolt assembly. For more info, tips and tricks for the 597 check out rimfirecentral.com.
I have a 597 VTR and love it, except that I cannot get a loader to load my 30 round magazines.
Good luck
Abid
