A little weary about straight pulls

BTW guys, watch out for the Bulgarian ammo for the 8x56R. It is violently corrosive and there still is a fair bit of it around, mostly War Two dates. Headstamp includes what looks like a tiny dancing lion (it's actually a bear rampant: old Bulgarian Royal crest) and letters BPhi.

Best bet is just to go to Trade-Ex for some of that nice Partizan Boxer-primed brass and some .329-208 slugs. Lee and RCBS both make dies and the Lee ones are cheaper and aren't even special order. They work. Lee has a mould for a .329 gas-check slug; you use Hornady .32 gas-checks. Works.

Biggest point of all: have fun!

I have shot lots of rounds though a 1905 Ross. Never a problum, thought I had miss fires a couple of times when the bolt looked closed fully but was just a hair away from being closed. I'd trust it.

Good luck with that.Trade-ex doesn't have it in stock anymore.

I'm looking for this brass for last year or so-seems like nobody in Canada has it ,and very few places in US do(still, out of my reach)

I have probably put over 1000 rounds through my model 1889 Schmidt-Rubin with no problems at all from the rifle. It was a learning experience reloading for that thing and the first few rounds got some blow back in the face but fixed that in later loads.

Trade-Ex updates their website daily. Carcano brass was listed in RELOADING COMPONENTS as SKU: 00296552brass, $35 for a bag of 50, about 10 minutes ago.
They also have Carcano slugs in stock.

They ARE out of the 8x56R brass right now although they have more or order. Swiss 7.5, French 7.5, Lebel, Argentine and a bunch of others are in stock, also .303 and 8x57.

Hmm, how about a brand spanking new production, double barrel straight pull rifle..... in African big game hunting calibers no less.
I do like the .416 Rigby, but as expensive to reload as the .338 Lapau.
