But when you consider that a Norinco sells brand new in Canada for about $400 and a new Springfield sells for a little over $2000, it is easy to understand the excitement. You can buy a Norinco, dress it up and accurize it and it is still less than half the price of a stock Springfield and has a forged reciever to boot!

You can buy a Norinco, dress it up and accurize it and it is still less than half the price of a stock Springfield and has a forged reciever to boot!
They are popular because they are the Honda Civic of the non-restricted rifle market up here; cheap, reliable, well built, and there are a glut of aftermarket parts available to customize the rifle to ones needs. It can be an accurate paper-puncher, a 'tactical' rifle with all of the go fast, high speed-low drag gear (oversized spoilers, body kits, and fart-can mufflers come to mind here), or it can stay the way it is and be fine.
If I had the cash now, I'd own three: a 'tactical' shortie, a 'sniper' version, and a blued 'classic' piece in a nice hardwood stock. You can do so many things with these rifles and for a starting price of 1/4 of a Sproingfield, you can't go wrong.

I did a poll a couple of years ago. Over 200 people on the board owned at least one Norc M14. To the best of my knowledge no one on CGN has been blown up by a Norc.
USGI parts fit and function in/on Chinese receivers better than all other commercial receivers.
The price is good, but going up.
It is my experience that Chinese M14 receivers (Polytech & Norinco) are an excellent choice for custom SEI builds.

OMG! Someone else on here actually remembers Rick`s shop? I worked for him for one summer in his dinky litle shop. Gawd...fun times. And yes, he had most anything you wanted. Definately a lot of war surplus. bren gun, sten gun, K98s .303s of any mark you wanted, .22 copies of the 1911A1 for $75 that worked great. He did have a Springfield M14 for $1100 with accesories. An AKM? or was it AKS with the 75 rnd drum for $675 (droooool)
The funniest I saw was the guy who came in and bought an MG34 for $600 cash...came with 100 free rnds, 250 rnd link belt, bipod, cleaning kit and a carrying sling...Rick asked him what he wanted it for. Guy replies..."groundhog shooting"

Norinco M14S Bashing
I have a Norinco M14S, totally dressed up. I bought it for $1,700.00 from another CGN'er on here. I added a genuine military sling and slip on recoil pad for another 100 bucks, so I have $2,000.00 into it, if you include the 20 boxes of milsurp I picked up at P&D.
Awesome rifle! I've only put 2 boxes through it so far (sighting in the scope) but it functioned flawlessly. With the scope zeroed, it was doing 1`` groups. I can`t remember getting so much pleasure instantly out of any other rifle, every time I pulled the trigger.
I bought a custom M14S from LRB Arms (with M25 receiver) that should arrive before Christmas. LRB charged me US$2,845.00 for it. MilArm is going to charge me about $400.00 to bring it into Canada for me. So, for $3,200.00 I still have to add a sling, recoil pad, laser-rangefinder scope, McMillan stock and I expect to end up with a $5,000.00 rifle. For almost the same rifle, the Norinco will end up costing less than half, and is still an awesome looking, handling and performing rifle. I feel the Norinco is still the best deal on the market! I still plan on buying another stock Norinco M14S, and at least $500.00 in spare parts, (these might become scarce)
When I get them both side by side at the range (probably won`t be until summer though) I will post an accuracy comparison at 100-200 & 500 yard.

Man, I would love to see a Nork/LRB comparo! That's big money for the LRB although the M25 receiver would be awesome to have.
