I only had time to listen to about 40 minutes of that 1 hr + video, but here's my take from everything said:
- Honestly, the majority of gun owners and gun businesses will HAVE TO comply with whatever the laws are, in regards to gun ownership in this country. The keyboard warriors aka I WILL NOT COMPLY group is VERY, VERY, VERY small. The majority WILL comply. People have family, kids, bills and expenses to deal with, and our survival instinct will do what's necessary to stay "alive. Don't get me wrong - I DESPISE this government and everything they've done to ruin this country, including our freedoms and gun ownership, but I'm also realistic that I'm not going to go to jail to "Stand my ground" when I have a family to support.
- The ONLY way to solve this problem is by voting in the Conservatives in the next election. No amount of law suits, complaints, petitions, protests, etc, will have any impact. We've seen in the last 8 years how corrupt this government is, and how willing they are to lie, cheat, and distort everyday Canadian to the Liberal party's agenda. The ONLY WAY TO WIN IS TO VOTE THEM OUT.
- The CSAAA can still get out of the this contract of working with the government, if they choose to. Members of that organization need to get together and make that happen. The CSAAA sounds like is still in the process of negotiation, but the government made this deal public of course for their own agenda and benefit.
- All previous board directors KNEW, SUPPORTED, and VOTED for this contract. Any one of them to back paddle now is just trying to save their butts
- All three gun orgs, CCFR, NFA, and CSSA all knew about this and verbally supported CSAAA on this engagement. CCFR and CSSA are holding back of that verbal support, and NFA is once again showing their true colors by "denouncing" this deal when they KNEW about it beforehand and offered support
- Thinking from a business owner perspective, I can understand why the CSAAA would want to be a part of deciding how much money their inventory is worth. Yes, it is self-serving, but if you have been holding on for 3 years, we're back to the basic instincts of survival. I don't blame retailers for wanting to re-coup their dead inventory costs to stay alive.
- Thinking from a gun owner perspective, I agree that the optics of this "partnership" can only be miss-used by the government to speed up their agenda. However, if the CSAAA provided accurate "value" of all prohibited guns under the OIC, and IF THE GOVERNMENT uses those amounts for the buyback, then their partnership makes sense and only helps the gun community in getting "fair compensation" when and if the buyback happens. I'm sure no H&K MR223 owner wants to be paid $1000 just because it's an "AR15", for example.
- I think the real tragedy here is that the CSAAA could've handled this SO MUCH better, by communicating what they are doing and to have a discussion with their members, not just the board directors, about the implication of this deal. In the video call Wes mentioned that they TRIED to do this but participation from members were so low, that they really didn't have a lot of input from members. I wonder why this was the case, and if the retail members just did not pay attention to CSAAA's communication, or was the communication not very clear on what was going on.
- Like others have said, the $700k figure is not money paid yet to anyone, it's just an maximum amount the government set aside for CSAAA to conduct the admin side of things.
- It almost feels like the CSAAA were blindsided by the government on this announcement and didn't have a communication plan in place until now. The lesson here is - DO NOT TRUST THE GOVERNMENT, ESPEICALLTY THIS LIBERAL GOVERNMENT as they've proven to be complete liars and manipulators in the last 8 years
