I'm a big fan of peep sights over scopes. My vision is still good enough to do well with peeps but the days of shooting well with regular irons is behind me. But I'm not so far gone that I NEED a scope... :D

So a couple of years back I whooped for joy when I got a nice Anschutz rear target peep at a swap meet for what I felt was a fair price. So began the hunt to find a rifle that I could put it onto. I had no luck other than a couple of high end guns which I just couldn't see tying up that much money into.

At the Kamloops swap a few weeks ago this all changed when I happened upon an old 1966 vintage CIL 125, otherwise known as an Anschutz 1400. So it took me a while to get around to getting a Lyman front globe sight to go with the rear Anschuts peep. But it's done now and I've had it out for the first sighting in effort.

It shot OK but not fantastic with some Winchester Target and some Fiocchi SV. But I'm hardly the best bench shooter. I can usually do better from free standing than benched. So I wasn't surprised at the mediocre performance of the rifle. Then I tried some Blazer. I shot a few to clear and accustom the bore to the new ammo then shot the last three rounds of that box for a grouping. The results went from "mandarin orange sized" to a tiny little three hole cloverleaf smaller than a dime.

I had to move on and the rifle's bolt had an issue so that's where I left things. But I'm pumped that I might have found the "right" ammo for this rifle so easily.

I'm looking forward to the next time out where I have more time, take notes for different distances and get to try some other ammo. The bolt is all fixed now and the rifle cycles ammo from the magazine just great instead of having to single feed them.

And the obligatory pictures.... :D
