Here are a few more pics of my recent 91/30 purchase I briefly talked about in another thread. There was a lot interest in it, so I took it outside today in the sun while I was cleaning a few other guns.

1928 Izzy ex Dragoon.

Absolutely gorgeous! My Mosin has a hint of tiger stripe, but nothing like that. I do have an SKS that looks like its on fire, though. Amazing some of the patterns that Birch takes on!

Thanks guys. This Mosin is also considerably heavier than my other 91/30, as well as others I've handled. During research, the only other examples I've come across online with this amount of flame to the wood are Finnish made models.

Beautiful rifle!!
I'll turn my back for a minute and you can just leave it my front door :)
hey now, lets not be calling a man with such a good looking rifle "Canada Post" !
OP that is a beauty for sure!

Not sure why you'd call him 'Canada Post' if it actually made it to your door, unless it did and they just left it on your porch in the rain LOL

OP- that is some amazing wood grain for any rifle...

isnt considered a normal 1891 mosin if made before 1931?

Lots of model info on 7.62x54r.net You can go through your rifle details like rear sight style, overall length with their flow chart to figure out what variant you have.

Here's some info about the ex-Dragoons:

Although full production began in 1930 and ended in 1944 at both arsenals there are many M91/30s on the market with earlier dates. These were originally built as Dragoon rifles from 1893 to 1929 at Izhevsk and from 1923 to 1929 at Tula. Dragoons were also built alongside M91/30s up to 1932, but that is outside the scope of this article. Some Dragoons were likely upgraded to M91/30 specifications prior to WWII but the vast majority were upgraded during the last major refurbishments of Mosin Nagant rifles carried out in the 1960s and 1970s. It's also possible some were upgraded by Finland. Collectively these are commonly known as "ex-Dragoons" and the original barrel marks are typically retained.

My first 91/30 Mosin was a $109.95 SFRC special, randomly chosen from the crates when they sent it. I considered myself lucky when I ended up with a nice 1927 hex receiver ex-Dragoon. The wood on this example takes the cake though.

Glad these photos survived the Photobucket purge. I went back in recently and was able to recover them just in case.

That Mosin is Beautiful . I was just wondering did you get her that way or did you refinish the stock ? other wise I think it looks great.

It was common in the 60's to tiger stripe stocks with a blowtorch then refinish them.Saw a collectable 33/40 done this that in a G+A magazine as a "custom" sporter...........................................................................Cringe
