A new .338 lapua.

Watch my friend shoot his new 338 Lapua he had made by Robertsons, he had a Rem 700 in 338 lapua removed barrel and put on a 30" Tru Flite, fluted and put a Robertson GBF stock. Ben & Ian did smithing
Watched him break it in and fire a 3 shot group at 300y man it shoots!
.600" at 300y

What was the rate of twist he used?

Thanks, Justin

My Remington 700P has the a 1:10 rate of twist and I shot .713 MOA with one of my first loads with 300gr SIE MKs. Just my experience. Also I have found once fired brass, at a good price from people here on gun nutz.

I'm glad you enjoy your rifle! Before Savage released the 110BA and 110FCP the remington was one of the few in my price range. I did quite a bit of research and decided that If I wanted to take on a project gun I would buy it. Unfortunately for myself, I am not a gunsmith and the costs wouldn't have left much room for glass and components so I had to pass.

I guess I should have phrased my statement carefully. You can definitely get components but it's not the same as buying .308 brass. My local stores have Nosler and Hornady brass but the cost is astronomical for what many people feel are average quality products. I ended up purchasing Nosler brass so that I could work up a load while I wait for my once fired lapua brass to come in (purchased on EE). At the same time my local stores are cleared out of any heavier .338 projectiles. I understand you can get them online but I never had to with the other calibers I have so it's different world for me. I don't want to come off like i'm complaining it's just my experience.

I had a Remington 700P and it shot pretty well. Never shot groups with it at 100 yards. Took it to 1760 yards. Sold it to pay for a wedding anniversary present.

Kinda thinkin I shoulda sold the wife........:(

What did you have for a optics setup on your 700 to shoot that far? Also what size target do people (you) shoot at that range?

The scope I had on it was a Millet 6x25. Cheap scope but it had 140 internal MOA. Was gonna sell it when I sold the rifle but will use it again.

The target I shot at was Tigrr's fun shoot near Peace River AB. There is a thread on it in the Long Range Competition section. The dimensions may be posted there.

I have a "terrorist" target that is about 20" wide by 30" tall. Also have a 24"x24" square. I gotta get out and shoot these damn things at a distance.

I picked up a REM700. It kicks like a mule but I have 4 other 700's in 308 and 2 in 223 so the layout etc is all very familiar and universal. Plus, it was relatively inexpensive

Does your m700 in 338LM have a break? I fired a savage 110 ba a week or so before I bought my 700 and I find my 338 has about the same felt recoil as the savage. Just my 2 cents.

Sako TRG 42

I pondered on getting a lapua for years finally saved enough for a TRG, glad I waited finally found a Sako at Ellwood Epps, and yes everything is more money when you say Lapua, still worth it.
One thing to consider though is the money put out in the rifle is only half way there you will need a equal amount in the scope to shoot the distance these rigs are capable of. I went with Night Force.
