What would you recommend to a guy looking for a fairly good quality bolt action to shoot with the factory sights.
Please consider: quality of the sights, quality of the firearm in general, price, weight (will be carried into the back-country),

I have nothing against an older gun that is a timeless classic, but I'm not looking for something too old.

Thanks for your input.

How much $$ are you planing to trow at this project?

Personally, my vote would go to either a CZ...

Or a 'older' Ruger 77/22

Or if you don't mind doing something a little different... get a Browning T-Bolt, and install a nice front sight and a rear receiver peep...

Cz firearms in general are good buys for the money, I don't mind the sights on the ones that I have shot. Can't recall the models of them I have shot however, sorry.

CZ 513 to save a little cash and get a mediocre trigger, CZ 452 if you are willing to spend a little more. IMO.

i would go for a CZ. the irons on a lux or trainer and very nice. the 513 is a nice gun but lacking in the irons and the trigger needs to be worked.

Zastava Z5 for $299 is a good buy.

The Zastava Z5 is accurate and it has an adjustable trigger. It was marketed by Remington as the Model 5 for a while, (Remington used the barreled actions and made their own stocks for it.) The "poor mans" CZ at a bit over half the price of a CZ.

Go with a euro rifle, like CZ, or hunt down an older rifle. Newer rifles don't have enough drop at the comb and heel for proper fit with iron sights. Most are stocked to point properly with a scope these days. However I have noticed that many offshore classic style rifles have the proper stock.

A CZ Scout might fit your specs, especially since you plan to carry it in to the back country. The length of pull is short but given its light weight (5 ilbs) and the fact that you aren't planning to scope it this may not be a problem for you. You could also lengthen the pull a bit by adding a recoil pad.

A friend of mine bought one of these to carry on his quad and he loves it, even more so after I did a Jo Brooks trigger mod to it.

Izhmash the producer of the Ak has a few good choices. Check out interammo they have the Korshun. I have had one for about 8 years 10 k rounds and still going. Nice finish and accuracy. Basically AK quality and dependability but in a 22 rifle.

The Savages with the accutrigger are nice little inexpensive rifles... but a older Mossberg is pretty darn good... If you can get a trigger job done or don't mind living with the trigger... I have an old chuckster 640 in 22wmr that has world's worst trigger, and will group 5 shots into 0.75" at 100yards. Its old and not very exciting looking but its sure nice to be able to do that.

CZ 452 std, lux or FS. Those have nice flush mags that don't dig into your back. I also like the cooey 60 if you want a good set of sights on a great little rifle to beat up a bit on long walks.

I have shot one - I would suggest this make/model to the original poster. They are very high quality, satisfying .22's.
