Hey guys, i've spent alot of time and money converting this firearm to be as much like an ar-15 as possible (both function and appearance). This is what i've come up with as my non-restricted AR.

My Kel-tec Su-16f
According to the data stamp on the side, it is chambered in .223 Rem. However, it's rumored that Kel-tec chambered these in 5.56 but were unable to export them into Canada with 5.56 NATO stamped on the side. Now this is speculation as I have not physically tested this, but will soon as I have a large quantity of Norinco 5.56. There are some OEM parts you can purchase for this that give it a milspec sized buffer tube and pistol grip (done). I also modified a bolt release/hold open lever for it. But also, there are a few alternatives for handguards as well; however, they all leave parts of the firearm exposed (gas tube, where the barrel meets the receiver, etc). So I bought a knock-off FN Fal Handguard and modified it to fit. And believe me this thing fits rock solid. If anyone of you has an Su-16, I definitely recommend getting the quad rail handguard to fit an FN FAL for it. Looks slick, fits great, however I wouldn't go as far as mounting an IR on it or any other optics as i'm sure theres SOME play even though I can't feel any.

Also, there are many more pics of the build, if anyone is interested in doing this modification, let me know and I can provide all kinds of photos and specs.

The next step for this gun is new optics and a weaponlight.
And FYI, I've got about 1500 rounds through this thing, and I cannot remember a single malfunction. So there's that.
Let me know what you think!

Hard to believe it started as this.

And it has some length to it (the middle one) but that's why I added a shroud, make it appear like it has a suppressor for a reason as to why its so long.

How does it feel and shoot compared to an ar? Controls are close and Ergos seem almost exact same.

Ergos are similar for sure, controls a bit different, push safety vs selector, the bolt lever is out the side of the gun (factory at least, I made a hold open/release lever on the left side). The recoil is different feeling as there's no buffer, all the movement comes from the "gas tube". Thing is super accurate as well. Feels sooooo much better to hold with that handguard on it. I might consider leaving it without a foregrip as well.

Looks awesome, if only there was a better way to attach the stock. Gotta say ,that's the best one I've seen yet.i really liked the one I had. What's the ballpark, overall cost of your build?

Thanks dude!
And oh man never really thought about it. Think I got the rifle for 750-850 many fort nights ago. The stock conversion and initial handguard installation was probably an extra 350? Then optics (which ended up being around 300), new handguard, barrel shroud, magpul stock...
As close as I can guess with everything in the photo above about $1650-$1850.

(the FN FAL handguard was only $70.00 I think)

I was interested what it cost you to build also. If that's not being too nosey.

$1350 without the optics is pretty good, I had $1250 into mine, yours looks way better , I like how the gas tube is covered also.

Yeah, seeing the gas tube was a big no-no for me. BUT! The glory of this set up using the FN FAL handguard is that the top rail is removable. So it works perfect for this rifle when cleaning and needing to remove the bolt and gas tube all together.

where and how did you get that barrel shroud to fit and the price would be nice I have an su-16 already have the ajust stock and kel-tec forehand,i remove the front sight, and install a set of magpull sight ,now my barrel look to skinny lol I would like to cover it,thank you .

Barrel shroud just has set screws in it to hold it in place. I wrapped Paracord around it to give it more girth (haha). The shroud is just an aluminum tube designed for paintball guns if i'm not mistaken. It was roughly 10 bucks.

Can you post more pics of the build/parts used?

I'm sure lots of people would like to see them. :)
