Looking to get a nice tactical, non restricted, AR looking rifle... for the range only, rim or center fire, it doesn't matter. I'm thinking about spending $600ish
I really don't want to deal with att's and I also can't afford to spend $1500+ at the moment...

I like the look and the price of the mossberg 715t, but I keep hearing bad things about it...... Any suggestions? Thanks

At that price range, your only going to find rim fire ie mossberg 715, ruger sr 22.
Centre fire, your looking at the XCR, tavor, ACR and Swiss arms, to name a few off the top of my head. All of which are well over 2000 new, but could be had for under 2k if you find the right deal on the EE.
Btw, the rumors are true, the 715 sucks.

I'm a real "get whatever floats your boat" kind of guy, but boy...I just can't see the appeal of those Mossberg tactical .22s. If you have $600 to spend (and I'm no Ruger 10/22 fan)...I think your best choice is the SR-22. At least it feels like a real rifle.

yup i fyou want that AR feel but want to stay NR the SR-22 is about your only option. everything else out there is polymer. you can build up some pretty nice rifles with the 10/22 chassis especially with some of the stuff promag is coming out with like the SR552 and the Archangle stocks. but they are all polymer again.

I bought a used 715 on E.E. Looks like an AR and feels and shoots, just fine.

i just sold mine, i actually really liked the rifle. my only complaint was the cleaning, and the cheap 25 round mags. i could shoot all day with the 10 round without any issues. and they are VERY accurate rifles out of the box.

I love my 715T shoots all day long with zero issues. I keep the mag to about 20 rounds. I agree mine was dead nuts accurate out of the box. If you are looking for just a cheap range 22 to have some fun with I suggest it highly.

Thanks for the replies! I'll check them both out (moss and ruger) and see which one feels better I guess.... don't mind the plastic heh... so is my handgun

You could get an mk22 , mine was alittle finicky at first . But now I run only cci stingers & no misfires I love this little 22. It looks like a SCAR also which I think is pretty cool .

Your looking for a NON restricted tactical rifle for "the range only" ??? that makes no scence. If its for the Range only.....just buy a restricted.

I'm kind of inclined to agree with this. Especially since you just said you already have a restricted?

If you want something to look like an AR I would probably go with the SR22 in that price range. I liked the Mini14 suggestion personally though.

Since you have your RPAL and it's for the range only, restricted gives you better options since the Colt M4 .22 and the Smith n Wesson MP15 22 are both in your price range. If you do want the non-restricted, personally I would stay away from the Mossberg. It looks wacky and is just a little too plasticky. IMHO.

A friend of mine bought a new mossberg 715t ,tried to load it and had issues trying to get magazine loaded past 11 or 12 rounds. After he did manage to get it full,he put mag in the rifle and it would not fire...stripped off 1 round at a time until it would fire...it only worked with less than 14 rounds in the magazine. He gave the rifle to me to try and figure it out. I disassembled the magazine and cleaned all the burs off the plastic.I noticed that the mag is really a 702 plinkster mag that is open on the bottom and a plastic 15 round extension on the bottom...ith transition from the metal to the plastic is a problem.Cleaned it up and it loaded up fine. Also kept the magazine fully loaded for about a week to wear the spring pressure down a bit. Then I tackled the rifle...about 12 or so screws hold all the plastic ar lookalike crap on the rifle....looks like it could be a problem for stripped screws in the future,as you have to take all that crap off to clean it.Got it off and it is a 702 plinkster barrel and action and trigger.Removed the bolt and trigger assembly and noticed rough flashing from the casting process in the top of the action.Ground it off and polished the ramp and lubed and reassembled the works.Took it out and put 100 rounds through it as fast as I could pull the trigger. Up side is that it is accurate. Even for $275 new i don't recommend it...the more I touched this thing the more I didn't like it.I don't believe I should have to spend 2-3 hours to fix crap like that, when it is still new.Look at the Ruger sr22

Pietta Wildcat looks likes a pretty sweet rifle and is NR although ive never shot it i owned a pietta pps50 and it would only take CCI ammo so with you budget I would go for that or like it was said earlier the Remington 597VTR Im getting mine tomorrow will keep you updated how it shoots,as for the 715T to me feels very cheap, very few aftermarket parts plus polymer body, the sr22 is also a good guess but chances are you are gonna overpay like any ruger product on the EE or you can be lucky and find one in stock at you dealer

Good luck with you hunt and post picture when ever you end up buying something

-1 I see no valid reason why someone would own a restricted 22LR rifle, I have way more fun bringing my 22LR to crown land with a few high cap mags than I've ever had with a 22LR at the range

Plus no ATT ;)

im on the 715T bandwagon now that the mag spring has settled. that was the only issue with mine, now I can load and fire all 25 rounds with no issues. I had 5 jams in 300 rounds last time and that was when pulling the trigger as fast as I could. steady bursts was flawless. I would have got the SR22 if they were available and not 600 bux used!
