a noob question.

well everyone...I want to wildcat the x39. it's actually been something in the back of my head for years. however, I've never loaded a cartridge in my life. I have the Lee 25th Anniversary kit, so I've got some of the equipment to do it, but I obviously need some assistance to figure out how to do this properly. not just in loading cartridges, but also in getting a rifle spec'd out so that it can shoot whatever mutants I come up with.

is there a book or a website or some other exhaustive resource out there to coach someone new to the territory?

or better yet, perhaps someone in Vancouver (I live in Kitsilano) would be happy to let me bring over some beer and they break it down for me, show me the ropes, as it were?

"... I've never loaded a cartridge in my life..." Wild catting isn't something an FNG should be getting into. You know nothing about load developement for one.
"...got some of the equipment..." Not anywhere near everything. You have reamers and a small lathe to deal with thick case necks? Lee kit isn't high end stuff either. Serviceable, but entry level.
"...want to wildcat the x39..." Very little that can be done hasn't already been done. Do a net search for 7.62 x 39 wildcats.

Don't worry about Sunray he just likes to see his own posts, I've only been reloading for about 5 years and never attempted a wildcat cartridge, but Iam sure there's alot of knowledgable and some more "personable" gun nutz who would love to help you out.

or hes making valid points that the OP should be aware of....

knowing the basics of reloading the standard cartridges is soft of an essential. wild catting isn't exactly at the entry level , which it sounds like the OP is. no offense meant OP. why don't i just neck up my 308 to a 35 cal, drop some random powder in and shove a bullet on top see what happens? when i know nothing about burn rates of the powders, CUP pressures, that could potentially happen.. doesnt sound like the best idea does it?

Not much to be done with the case. It already has a very short neck. the case can be blown out a bit. It is quite tapered.

If you check the catalog of a reamer maker, you will find a list of the variations of the case, along with chamber drawings.
