A P-14 quandary...

Easier and cheaper in the long run to find a sporter to get the parts you might need. As for removing the barrel Cantom is correct, These barrels are square threads and they are very tight. The Americans used a black like thread lube that dries like tar.
Most gunsmiths will take on your project but your going to pay for both barrels to be removed, then headspacing. Criterion make replacement barrels.

Side note: Stock sets are getting very hard to find, this is a DP and could be repaired if you have the skill set to do so.. A lot of P-14 rifles have seen some serious use and its normal to be repaired and repaired again...

I second that; while it's already been through Bubba, there's a bit of mischievous charm to the way the stock now looks, and with the scope you can probably eke-out some interesting results with the weight afforded by the remaining stock.

Just a thought.

The foresight parts should be easy enough to dig up, at least through online vendors in the US.

Someone with good with wood-work skills could make those DP cuts disappear....

Depends on how much you like P-14's, OP. If you restore it with a new barrel, you'll have a good, functional shooter that will last a lifetime, and you won't have to worry about shooting them too much.
 
Well I got a surprise last week... an old friend called me and informed me that her and her partner were getting their PALs. She told me this was as a result of my "chirping in her ear" for years. :) I was almost as happy as the day my kids were born. I told her I'd send her a gun once she had her card in hand. This is pretty standard practice for me with friends that get a pal. This is a special case as there is two of them... so of course I'm going to send her a .22 and I'm going to include the P-14 for her bf.

So she will stay as is for now. Thanks for the ideas fellas.

A wet rag and an iron would disappear those DP marks pretty quick
