A Poll: Who here processes their own game?

I gut and hang in camp but I now no longer hang and cut when i get it home . Living on the coast you cannot bank on the weather like the interior boys can. So $.40 a pound is damn cheap for cutting and wrapping . Beside that my last moose cost me $20.00 a pound so you want to make sure it's done right.

I did 6 deer this season. set up my garage with stainless steel benches. also have a sausage party! every year just before christmas. Always keep the beer fridge full and a box of band-aids.lol
seem to cut myself a little less every year.

We do it all.
Shoot, clean, skin, cut, wrap and freeze.
Amazing how much more meat we end up with.
But I'm sure nothing went out the backdoor when we took things to a butcher.
All just a coincidence, I'm sure.
The deer and moose have just got meatier.

Always do the skinning and gutting - sometimes do the processing but sometimes i take it to the butchers. There's only so much room for a moose in a 1 br apartment :D

From grazing to freezing! Work was slow during hunting season so I did my 6 deer myself. If i'd had more work I might have had to go to a butcher.
I would'nt have room for an elk or moose, but I can do deer ok.(it takes a lot of height to hang an Elk!) Bought a $30 grinder from Walmart, anything that did'nt look like a decent cut went in the grinder. Bones wrapped and frozen for soup.

Ive wanted to try taking it to the butchers to see if I can tell the difference between myself butchering it and him but never wanted to fork over the money for that haha.(black bear and deer are all I've hunted and butchered myself.)

Wouldn't mind going to another province and try some moose hunting but that's roughly 1,200$ and I could get a new firearm for that.. LOL Oh yeah plus I would have to get lucky and win myself an LEH..

Both

For Moose, the group I hunt with does everything including the brown paper wrap followed by the plastic bag.

For Deer it's either a butcher (group hunting previously) or I do everything myself.

For Bear I've only done all the work myself. I don't have a butcher close to the GTA area to do anything for me. Closest I've found is Orillia

We do as well. Gut, skin, hang, cut, wrap, grind 'burger, sausage packed and smoked, even home-made jerky - the total package. I'm lucky to have the help of both my parents, and to be given the opportunity to learn from their experience and abilities.

The old-man doesn't squeeze the trigger anymore, but is always willing to "complete" the job. He has a complete processing set up in the shop. I'm very fortunate.
