A buddy brought me a 12 gauge Browning Auto 5 (clone ?)to look at . It was made by Remington , but doesn't have Model 11 stamped anywhere (or any other model number...that I can see ).

The butt-plate (bakelite?) is stamped REMINGTON ARMS CO .
The top of the 28 inch barrel, just ahead of the breech, is stamped :
Manufactured by the Remington Arms Co. Ilion.N.Y.U.S.A.
Brownings Patents Oct.9.1900.Dec.17.01.Sept.30.02 June 16.03.
The safety is inside the trigger guard .
The serial # 53### is stamped under the reciever below the breech .
Remington license-produced the Auto 5 from 1905 to 1948 basically for the US market .
When was it designated the Model 11....in 1911 ?
I saw a Remington M/11 on Gunbroker.com that was made in 1926, with a serial # of 314689 . The one that I have here has only 5 digits .
Hope someone can help me reseach this classic ...when it was made...what is it worth ect....
The shotgun is in very good used condition...just needs some cleaning up .

Sounds like a Remington model 12. The one A 5 variant Remington made before the model 11. I just bought a model 11 Sportsman in 16 bore for 200.00 . These old girls are tough and I feel very hard to wear out. Check out google on the model 12 Remington. In fact gunbroker has one for sale listed under semi autos Remington. I can't link because of forum rules but it will be easy to find. Don't let the .22 rimfire model 12 throw you off of your search.

cheers Darryl

Thanks, Madtrapper143, for your reply .
I went to the aforementioned website and looked at the shotgun he called a "Model 12" . It looks like the one that I have . BTW that's a pretty neat gun rest on his website .
Next I googled Remington Model 12 shotgun etc etc . ....after 20 plus pages I gave up..... although I did read part of an interesting article " Collectible Shooters" by Layne Simpson who wrote ..." ...Remington built close to 65,000 Browning A-5s....On top of that, Remington also built and sold 850,000 near copies of the same gun, but called it the Model 11 ."...never did say what the 65,000 shot guns were called or when they were manufactured ....I'm assuming that they were just called Browning Auto- 5s .
