polaris_rider, I disagree that these threads are a waste of bandwidth.

The post was originally made in jest, and even that has value --- life would be dreary without a bit of humour. The intent was not to belittle the seller, and for the most part, the responses have steered away from this.

I enjoy reading about how people ascertain the value of their possessions, and it's interesting to hear what people's take is on the rarity of certain things. For example, I agree with Calum's experience that PCMR-marked rifles aren't common, at least at the places that I've been looking.

It's also interesting to see the difference in value between the US and Canada on these firearms. Gunbroker is a good source of info on current selling prices IN THE US but you have to be careful when you extrapolate this data to Canada. If you follow both the Canadian and US markets, you'll notice some sharp discrepencies in the pricing of certain firearms.

There seem to be some pretty passionate Winchester lovers south of the border. I'm aware that, some levers are worth more down there than here. (assuming you could get it there free of charge and, hassle...lol) But I'm havin' a difficult time with the asking price on this particular one...

Regarding bandwidth...since I've got my Grandfather's .32 Special, I like to see folks who "know there value"...if only sentimental!

I looked at that gun too in the EE. Hey, come on, it "is" very rare. It's serial number is unique.

C'mon people! This is the Winchester that Roy Rogers used to clean up the west! (or, alternately, "It was my grandfather's)

On the sober side, the rifle is only worth what somebody will pay for it. I have an old Tobin shotgun that belonged to my Dad. It is priceless. On the ohter hand, I am trying to sell another one in better shape for $300!!

I guess my 1900 vintage 1894 38-55 round barrel (with really excellent open sights I must admit) should be worth half a gajillion bucks then. Yeah sure in the land of The Duke Winnies are expensive. Cant sell them down there either from what I hear. Cant be repatriated once they leave the country. Now THATS a strange law.. I saw that ad and thought the same thing. Got a smile out of me at least once. Good luck dude.
