A project finally completed!

I'm certain that there are other people like me on this forum. You see something, somewhere, or someone gives you something. Next thing you know, you're in up to your eyeballs on a new project.

A few years ago, a friend gave me an unfired Rem 700 take-off barrel in .270 Win. I also had a Parker-Hale mauser action that had once been a 7mm Rem Mag. I turned down the nose of the bolt to .480" and threaded it 56 tpi. A ring of steel was threaded internally to fit, and then soldered on.

Edit: I should note that fitted aluminum heat sinks were used around the locking lugs while soldering.

The barrel shank was machined down to a smaller diameter, and given a fairly fine thread(Sorry! Can't remember).
An adapter was machined, and threaded on as tight as I could possibly get it. After that, it was threaded to fit the Mauser action.
The bolt handle was reshaped and the bolt got "Borden Bumps"(cause it was so sloppy).

The barrel was caliber stamped and bead blasted. The reciever got rust blued. The magazine follower needed a spacer soldered on to handle the narrower cartridges.
A used Ramline stock recieved lots of bodywork and Brownell's Alumahyde, as well as new textured grip panels. A second-hand Limbsaver recoil pad was put on after shortening the stock to fit this little runt.
Talley lightweights were bedded to the reciever top, as it was drilled and tapped very crooked.
It's first three shots with cheapo factory loads went into 3/4". The next group was half inch.

Now it just needs to get blooded!

how does it shoot?
So far I only have 15 rounds through it, but the two actual real groups(not function testing or sighting in) have been 3/4" and 1/2".
You have apparently never seen a messy shop.
That's the clean part.
By the way, this is the perfect Gunnutz job. You put at least 500 bucks worth of work in just to utilize a 50 dollar barrel. Awesome! My kind of project. Nice work.
Thanks, Bill! I think I'm way over the $500 mark.
but really, a new, unfired Rem700 barrel is going for at least $100 these days.

Here's the messy part.
