I needed a .303 barrel to rebarrel a M95 Winchester .303 for a friend.
Bought a sported No. 4, to break for parts. Cut forend, reshaped butt, typical economy sporter. Figured I would use the barrel, sell off the other bits to offset the barrel cost.
The bore appeared to be decent, not being interested in the rifle, I didn't have a good look at it.
Finally got around to have a good look at the rifle. '44 Maltby, matching bolt and receiver. Metal looks as if it was a new rifle that was sported, and then hunted with enough to wear the blue on the bolt. Bore is bright white, metal finish excellent.
Sooo, too nice a rifle to break for parts.
Dug around in the tickle trunk, found a really nice set of forend wood, a presentable butt, and the hardware.
Its now back to issue condition. Best part is that the forend fit is excellent. Full firm contact on recoil shoulders, proper up pressure at the muzzle.
Just some minor finishing and adjusting to do, and it will be a very presentable No. 4.
Checked my parts stash, and found a good in, not so good out, No. 4 barrel. It has now been machined, and is on the 95 Winchester.

Pics would be nice. Pics of targets with holes in them would be better. What kind of unholy things would one have to do to get a look in your tickle trunk?

Just tested it with the headspace gauges. Won't close on a SAAMI .068.
I have a lot of odds and ends, many going back to when I was running my business.
