Hi, I am planning to buy a SW 1911. However, the SW1911 seems to have
a different design than other 1911s (something about external extractor or
safety mechanism, I am not sure I am new to 1911).

I was wondering if the parts for general 1911 (say a colt) could fit
in the SW 1911 5in full size pistol?

Thank you.

In general, the answer is yes. Specifically, the Smith 1911 has an external extractor and a Swartz safety on it. This means that the grip safety both releases the trigger bow and acts on the firing pin block to allow the pistol to shoot. In other words Smith 1911's are like early Kimbers, external extractor, dumb-*ss firing pin safety. The extractor isn't a bad thing, the safety is debateable.
