my 17 round after market mags have a pin in the hole for 15. The mags are KCI.

How are they pinned? Is it a plug of some type? My Dad lives in the states and comes across the 17 and 33 round mags for decent prices and wants to send me some. I'd like to tell him how he can pin them before they cross the border. Any information or pictures are appreciated.
