Hey everyone....I have a Glock 17 with KCI mags......I find that these mags dont drop free when changing mags and I have to physically pull them out to change......Is this because they arent Glock factory mags or is this just a normal thing for Glocks(I dont have any factory mags)...For this reason I find that I choose to bring my M&P 40 out to the range more because I like to practice quick mag changes...thanks ......Wes

factory glock mags will fall right out even without shells in the mag. i dont have experience with the aftermarket ones, but i know the glock ones come right out. loaded or not.

Yes, Glock magazines will drop free (and are kind of pushed out by the magazine spring in an empty magazine), so either the KCI bodies are too big or the magazine spring is a little weak.

I have three Glocks and none have this issue but I only have factory mags. I am curious to find out if it is the KCI mags causing this.

They are selling so cheap that it just seems too good to be true if they are as good as the originals.

Let us know. Try to borrow some Glock mags off someone.

Just stick with factory mags.Glock mags arent expensive,so get something that is known to work rather than saving a few $s

Magazines are not the place to try to save money on

I've got two factory and two KCI mags and none have any problem "falling" right out when I release the mag, loaded or unloaded. Could just be the one or two you've got?

The first thing you need to do is figure out if all mags stick in your gun or just the KCI's. Also, does this happen with empty mags only, or does it happen with full mags too?

Do you have any factory Glock mags that you can try in your gun? If not do you know anyone that has either a G17 or a G22 that can lend you a mag or two to try out?

For what it's worth, there are literally millions of KCI Glock mags in circulation in the US and they have an excellent track record. For most shooting needs, there is no reason to spend the extra $$$ on factory Glock mags. The KCI's are fine.

But let's see if we can figure out what the problem with your gear is... You need to find some factory mags and report back to us.

Good luck!

thanks guys....First Ill check the rivets out.....If thats not the problem then Ill try to get my hands on some factory mags and see what happens....I do have one factory mag but it is the 10/33 extended mag and it has no problem dropping free but I need to get some regular sized factory mags to really compare......

My factory Glock mags drop freely.

Why save the $25 on a KCI mag when you can get a factory Glock mag that will work flawlessly? They might work great for some people and my Glock mags work perfectly for me.

Mag drop

I have 3 Factory Glock Mags and 3 KCI mags. All drop free when required. I really like the ease of loading the KCI ones. 17 pinned to 10. The KCI mags fit and function perfectly.

Even with genuine Glock Factory magazines,
there are several generations of Glock magazines,
with different magazine bodies and different followers.

The Original Glock OLD style mags do not have metal wrapped all the way around the front of the mag body. These mags were never intended to be drop free [ European gun designers, most military organisations, and IDPA, have a different philosophy about throwing away mags than do IPSC people]

With the proper follower, the slide stop should press down about 1/8" on the empty magazine follower, which is enough to give a spring assist to the beginning of the magazine ejection, If the follower does NOT push up on the slide stop properly when the mag is empty, the weight of the mag and gravity are the only things ejecting the mag. There are several different variations in 9 mm followers, and some of them will not connect properly with the slide stop.

Some aftermarket add on "Butt Plugs" intrude into the mag well just enough to add friction to the magazine ejection.

The factory Glock EXTENDED mag release is almost a necessity for some people. Personally, I put the extended mag release on all my Glocks, otherwise, I don't press in far enough to reliably and consistently drop the mags free.

Proper technique can overcome a sticky mag ... just use the little finger of your support hand to assist the magazine out of the butt. You then can grab the mag and stuff it in a pocket for later use or, simply discard it into the mud.
Your choice.

of course,
free advice you get from the internet is often worth much less than you paid for it,
and YPMMV

I have a Glock 19 and two KCI Glock 17 mags. Both KCI mags drop freely loaded or unloaded no problem. This may sound kinda lame, and I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but have you tried pressing the mag release harder? The Glock has a very stiff mag release, you need to push it in with much more force than any other gun I have fired. With my Glock if I lightly push in the mag release the mag will eject but not drop freely

beg borrow or steal a factory mag or three. see if its your gun , or indeed the aftermarket mags. do you have calipers? measure and compare the two

With my Glock 17, the factory mag release is almost like an on/off switch. If it isn't pressed hard enough, it simply will not eject the mag at all, but no matter how lightly it is pressed, when it reaches a certain point it will eject the mag with force every time. It will literally eject (by 1-2") a fully loaded mag even when the weapon is sideways.

This is with factory 10 and 10/17 round magazines. I've never used any aftermarket mags. Hope this gives you some insight.
