A Question for The Master Baiters (bear baiters)

We used beaver carcasses wired to trees with "bob waare" and have quite a bit on video of bears going up to try to snag them off. It's pretty comical to see them grab the beaver in their jaws and then push away from the tree with the idea that dangling there will free the beaver. Grease is always good. As someone said, it attracts them and they track it back into the bush where the other bears scent it and then follow it back to the bait. On donuts, they prefer chocolate crullers.

Hunted bears for years. I found using sweet feed for cattle along with fryer grease and extra molasses brings them in quite well.
Last year I tried chicken innards on one bait site and it seemed to work OK. It had alot of really bad smell making it hard to sit on the stand. I'll stick to sweet feed.

I know I can use popcorn, oats, bread, donuts etc. My question was not what to use, it was, "Will wheat work?" Like I said I can get tons of it and it will store well.
See I will be making the trip about 3 weeks before the hunt to drop off the bait, I will be having someone else bait for me, Bread will be good for about a week maybe two, I am not going to ask him to make popcorn for me, etc.

Here is what I currently have for FREE 5 gallons of Molasses, 5 gallons of fryer grease, and about the same in sweetened condensed milk. I also have access to a silo containing about ton or two of wheat.

Wheat will work just as well as any other cereal grain. The reason most don't use it is because it's expensive and heavy, nearly double the weight of oats.

Beaver, muskrats and Kentucky Fried Chicken fryer grease work really well. There was this molasses kind of stuff we got from a feed store for cattle that the bears went crazy over. They even dug down in the dirt where it had been poured.

What time of year do bears hit the bait in your area?

In N alberta I have heard it is the 1st real warm days.
The skeeters will be swarming.

To sit still requires a head net.
Most likely too warm to recover any meat unless ice is close at hand.
