I have been coming to CGN for years asking advice on hunting Whitetails, where to go, what to do etc, etc, etc... Seeing as I am from PEI where we have no deer, it has been a challenge learning gow to hunt thne, I only have a few days off in the fall.

Now I have another question... how the hell do I get the blood stains out of my jeans?

Thanks

get rid of the evidence, buy new jeans:cool:

I never had a problem like that:confused:, maybe because I never hunt in jeans??

try one of them funcy "no scent" detergents, the label says that they remove blood stains too, but on a pair of camo pants you cant really notice blood too much

You don't. Got salmon blood on two pair this summer. The stains never left I hunt in them and clean birds with them now.. Peroxide will bleach out your jeans too.

blood stains

Try the O.J. Simpson blood, dna and evidence remover that comes in the two liter bottle, I believe it is sold in Canada under the label "Club Soda" :D

Get a five gallon bucket, throw in one scoop of laundry detergent, a big long squirt of green superstore dish detergent, half a cup of borax or baking soda, half fill with cold water until mixed and soak the jeans in there for 24 hours, sloshing around occasionally. You may have to add a bit more water.

Rinse several times with clear water, then throw in the machine and wash cold as normal.

meat tenderizer is supposed to work good.

i have never had a problem with stains, i always just wash as normal (cold water). in the past i have had my shoes completely soaked in elk blood, i just put them in a bucket of cold water over night and the next day changed the water, then the next day dried them out.

I wash all my hunting clothes with Borax and it takes the blood stains out every time. Plus it's UV brightener free, unscented, removes scent and is priced like a laundry detergent should be. Can't believe guys pay $15 for a 500ml bottle of "special" hunting detergent when a box of Borax is only $5

Where to go and what to do

Dear CGN Member,

I recommend you travel to Moncton, primarily in the Coles island area. It's close to you and the amount of deer and public land to hunt on is some of the best in the province, and the maritimes. Given your time limits I think this is the greatest ratio of success you'll have.

If you can brave it you can sleep in tents on the public land, contact NB's DNR for more information. Look for the area where the cabins are on public land.

I would suggest picking up a climbing tree stand, if I was going to suggest one to a newbie I'd recommend a "gorilla" type which can be purchased at wally mart or crappytire. When you get into the area, there are several cut lines, power lines, and gas lines in the area that offer great shooting lanes. Simply locate a stream or crossing with several deer tracks and select a tree that will hold your body weight and enable you to get up approx 17ft preferably down wind.

Whitetails in NB can be quite large in size and to limit your need to trail after a kill I would suggest using a centerfire with caliber above .243. Remember to dress warm and pack a thermos. You must wear blaze orange hat and vest or jacket.

Oh, to get blood out of clothing use a bar of lye soap before putting your laundry into the washing machine. They can be picked up at most department stores. It cleans it up quickly and completely.

Hope this helps you,

J

I hunt only a short drive from Coles Island, in Pearsonville, I have use of a camp and access to about 5 farms and plenty of woods.

#1) Congrats on the kill!

#2) Plan a trip out west. Big whitetails all over the place.

#3) Most importantly, leave the stain and wear it proudly.
