I am looking to buy a nice example of a WW2 German P38 for my collection. When looking for an as issued numbers matching gun, should the magazine also be numbered with the serial or will it just be Waffenamt stamped? A few that I have found for sale claim all numbers matching but the mag. is only WaA stamped. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tim.

The mag is NOT always serialized. Very rarely in fact.

Numberz on all major parts should match, but mags can also be 'correct' as far as stamping goes. Just not necessarily sserial number matching the gun.

Wartime P38s are serialled on the frame, slide, barrel and last 3 digits on the locking block.

Mags were not numbered after early 42.

There are correct mags, but a none correct one wouldn't stop me from buying an otherwise matching gun.
By correct we mean that a pistol coded AC(Walther) should have a waa359 marked mag. byf(Mauser) should have waa135, cyq(spreewerk) should have waa88 or jvd waa 706 I think, marked mags.
