Just got word from a cousin and his wife that a black bear broke into their hen house and slaughtered 20 of their chickens last night (killed them all, ate one or two, and left)! The tracks and fur are all that is to name the culprit and Conservation has been notified.

Don't hear of this happening very often in these parts.

I thought this was a post about PM Harper's Chicken BBQ in South Surrey last night...many delicious chickens were served up for that. yum!

Definetly a sasquatch that got the chickens! They leave black bear hair behind to fool you.
They get tired of just eating potatoes, so they like some chicken with it.

A bear tried pushing down one our neighbour's chicken coops a while back, but Mrs. Farmer spotted the culprit in the act. She grabbed her .22 rifle and shot him in the ribs. She phoned hubby & Mr. Farmer came home from work and located the dead bruin a few yards away from the chicken coop.

Bad plan

Gut shooting a bear with a .22 is NOT a good plan..........
And yeah I know one of the biggest bears ever shot was with a .22

Gee, on the animals I have disected it is the lungs that are behind the ribs.
And, I would hazzard a guess that is where this bears lungs were also, since the little bullet did the trick.

You are right about the location of the lungs..........
If you think it's ok to shoot any big game with a .22 you've got a lot of learnin' to do.

That's impossible...everyone knows you need at least a .375 Ruger to drop one of those bad boys ;)

My uncle shot 3 blackies last year at various stages of chicken coop raiding... a few years back he noticed something was killing his chickens and not eating them so he posted on the deck 60yrd's away with his .22... around 3am the motion light came on and he watched 2 cougar kittens drop thru a small hole in the top wire while momma was watching from the tree line... pop....... pop..pop.. the local CO said "nice shooting".
