Hey all,

My local store ha a sale on SKS's right now, and I happened to come across a Izzy that has obviously been refurbed since it is in a laminated stock. Everything else is original, and I believe the only thing changed was the stock since the handguard has the original wood and the electropencil markings are on the bottom of the gastube. The stock is just stamped with the serial number of 919 and the Russian letter that escapes my memory right now, no ###X's anywhere.

So with taxes I'm looking at $217 out the door.

I have a shooter tula as well as an all original 1955 dated unrefurbed tula so I'm more or less interested in it as a collectible piece from the Izhevsk arsenal. The store also has a bunch of unrefurb looking Tulas for a little less out the door so I'm thinking if this 54 Izzy isn't worth much more than your average refurb I will pass on it and save my $$ for another crate of ammo.

I know my way around SKS's fairly well I believe, but always enjoy consulting the more knowledgeable people here on CGN.

Thanks everyone.

IMO, unrefurbished excellent condition, golden bayonet Tula is more desireable than a refurbished Izzy.

That's my thinking as well. I rarely see the Izzys, so I might as well grab one. I don't get the chance to go through fresh crates very often and was able to find 2 more last night as well. Not nearly as good looking but nice to see they are out there.

I think it's a worthy purchase. I bought 54 izzy refurb for $224 after taxes with a laminated stock a few months ago. Just for the fact that I don't see them often. Collector piece that I may end up shooting anyways because it's a tight rifle that I anticipate shoots well.

I did. While the stock wasn't original, it is one of the nicer laminates I've seen. Very tight rifle, must of been a very light refurb. It will be nice to have an Izzy. Just need to decide if I want to shoot it or not and leave in grease. I will post pics once I get some time.

I didn't really want to buy anymore refurb SKS's, but this one is really nice so I am sure I will be happy with it.

When I was picking mine up, I noticed one of the other Izzy rifles being taken to the front counter. I asked the guy if he knew what he had, and I was sad to hear he was going to "customize" it with a tapco system and a scope mount receiver cover.
