Hi All

Just looking at either a Henry Golden Boy, mares Leg or the non Golden Boy all in 22lr. She loves the lever action :)

Just wondering operationally is there a whole lot of difference?

Thanks

The Standard H001 is a much lighter rifle than the H001T Frontier, or the H004 Golden Boy. The Golden Boy may have too much drop at comb for your wife. My favourite version is the H001T Frontier... whatever you do, do NOT get her a Mare's Leg.

I agree with Hoyt that the frontier is the nicest henry and that also the mare's leg might not be as fun for your wife...... I find the mare's leg pretty easy to shoot even without a stock as you can still get a cheek weld you just have to man up and hold on to the awesome blast from the .22lr rimfire.... :)

Stocks are available at an extra cost.

Ask the wife what she wants. Take her some place where she can handle different guns to see what is comfortable for her. The Mares leg is a bad ideal for a beginner. 22 is a good place to start. I have handled the Henry's and the seem like nice guns.

I bet your "wife" really wants one of these

I wish I had gotten a rifle for my ex wife...I had to pay to get rid of her. Swapping for a rifle would have been way better! :p

God, I love this forum. Makes me smile every day. Thanks BrotherRockeye.

Depending on how strong your wife is will determine what Henry to get. The Octagonal barrel is heavier than the round barrel model. It may not seem like much more weight but it may to your wife after a long shooting session.

Fun story we went to Tenda today to check out the Henry's and my wife forgot her PAL. And she liked the $900 Marlin, not the $370 Henry

Guess the Norinco JW was too small?
I had to re-read your first post...I thought "Why does she need her PAL" if it's a present from you...
But you didn't say that...lol

Agreed 100% Happy wife/Happy Life

Nice looking gun but certainly not the 22 I was looking for

Ahhh... yeah... NO!

Is this her first rifle?

You definitely do not want to start with a .45/70... but you can start with a Marlin if she really wants one... having her "sign-off" on what you get her means you are half way there to having her enjoy herself, which I assume is what you are hoping for... but make it a Marlin .22 LR.

Did she actually handle a Henry? Perhaps it is the fact that it is a "lever action" that she likes? For some people, when they think of a rifle, they imagine something John Wayne would use... if that is the case, show her some other lever actions, including the Henry and see if she gravitates towards them. Perhaps it was the Walnut stock with Stainless metal she liked? If so try her on the Henry Silver Boy and see if she likes that... Tenda has them;

I have a mares leg. And Neighbour No. 1 is right. I put a full stock on it and it is fun gun to shoot and easy to carry.

Definitely NO on the 45/70. Unless you reload it down to very soft, which won't be good for anything but plinking, she will be angry and bruised.
