A rushed mosin

I have a 1943 Izzy and a 1944 Izzy. My 43 looks a lot like yours does, night and day beside the 44. You can tell things were going a lot better for Russia in 1944 when you see the remarkable difference in final finish.

My 42 Izzy looks much the same, but it's smooth in all the areas that count, and a good shooter.

nice cannon fodder rifle....I tried 4x to buy a rough 1942/43 like that but kept being sent different rifles by dealers instead of the ones I ordered and when challenged for small discounts as the rifles I got were decent as they were. Still I wanted a rough one from the dark days of the war. Nice piece and a good discussion piece amongst gun afficiato's

That's what she was wearing when I bought her from Epps in 2006 or so...

I'm told it's uncommon. Must have been what was in the parts bin when she was refurbed. She has her share of black BBQ paint in the blue-worn areas as well. Pristine bore though, shoots the 150grn .312 Spire-Points to about 1.5 inches.

I got lucky getting a '43 Izzy from Canadian Tire. I was able to pick through 20 or more of them. Gun was free to me with CT money I had saved up. Wanted a "rushed" wartime version and found one with wartime stock and cartouches present and a new barrel. The rifling on the muzzle is sharp and new. The metal is also rough finished, but is it possible I have an unissued barreled action with a new wartime stock? I cannot find any refurb mark on the barreled action.
Buttpad was stencil numbered and mag assembly used from another gun with old sn# crossed out and stencil# match.
I later added shims to the action and cork to the handguard and got 2" groups with surplus Chinese @ 100yds. Besides my M39 I really like this Mosin.

My Izzy 1942 Mosin is in better shape than that, had the chance to pick and choose between 10 of them in a Cambodian rubbers for $199...as for the how goood it shoots, well the bore is nice, and I haven't spent much time to shoot it a lot to come up with a group size yet. But, glad you could save one. I understand the job situation in Alberta. Tough times, hang in there!
What is the story about the orange markings? I have seen a few like that while picking mine up, do you know what it is about?
