I drew a cow moose tag this year and my buddie has a bull tag. So this morning he phones me and tells me that he has 2 cows standing in the field 200 yards from him. Great me thinks...we are working together one this one. I tell him I am out the door. I grab my gear and the phone rings again. He tells me that he is leaving them as 2 more hunters have driven by and he doesnt want to spook them as I lost another cow 2 days ago to guys driving up and down the road. I am out in the field in about 8 minutes and looking for the cows.

As I am heading west in the field, I spot them 120 yards away standing nibbling on some bushes BUT across the fence line on posted land. I bailed out of the truck and watched them for about 2 minutes and they werent nervous at all.So as I know the guy who owns the land I drove out of the field and got permission to get on his land. I drive back out to the field ( with in 5 minutes) and park about 100 yards away from where they were and follow the tree line to get to the opening where they were.

I am only 10 yards from the opening and I hear a crashing in the bush 100 yards ahead of me,still on the posted land which I have access to now and figured they were in the bush so continue my stalk to the sound of the noise.

I make it 10 yards out of the bush and look to my right....WTF...both cows are standing there looking at where the noise came from. I dropped to my knees ,threw my rifle to my shoulder turned to wack one of them but they were already trotting off into the bush. I could have done a fast shot but it wasnt quite right. So I pay my attention to the crashing and out comes a 36 to 40 inch bull moose.

He stops 80 yards broad side to me for about 15 seconds, looks around takes 4 steps and stops again. 15 seconds or so again and I have my scope on him and watch him trot off into the bush on the same trail the cows went down..:kickInTheNuts: Of all the luck eh!!!!

Good adventure. I'll bet you will tell that story more than you would tell if you had simply shot a cow.
That's what hunting is all about.
