A sad sad day for revolver owners in Canada

Seems like there enough people with "Bad Gretch" experiences to start writing to S&W. But a list of alternatives would be good.

Murray's a top shelf guy. But there gets to be a point where a fella just wants to have some more time for himself, family, life etc.

Do the math, 50 yrs in the business, the clock is running out on the rest of it.... he deserves to really enjoy the years left.

I say, good on him to make the decision. But yes, it's a sad day for gun owners, too.

Agree. Ive had work done by him in the past. Great guy and its hard to put a price on the experience he brought to his work. He will be missed.

If anyone has experienced Grech Outdoors' service, be afraid - be very afraid, and send your S&W to the US for service. No parts, no care, no timeline, no responsiveness, no courtesy, no communication.

Absolutely agree. These guys are total scams.

I just read this in another thread...

After 50 years in the gun industry Murray Charlton Ind will be closing it's doors.

I've had many dealings with them and always got top service and quality. I wonder who will take up Sig and S&W warranty work???

When I had a Smith & Wesson revolver many moons ago I was told to send it too Wortners in Chatham for service. is he still in Business ?

Yep they are still in Chatham.George passed a while back but his son took over.I thought they had the contract to service S&W .They put a new cylinder on my 686 a while back and it was a fairly quick turn around and no charge warranty work.Works fine for me.

It's too bad that some great people in this world are't fully recognized for their great talent and skills until they are no long with us! RIP.

Sounds like a better place than grech, if not, I can see myself sending through IRG for work at the factory, at least for serious stuff!

Its official. From the S&W website:

CANADA

Grech Outdoors Inc.
115 Fergus St. South
Mount Forest On NOG 2L2
Phone: 519-509-4867
Fax: 519-509-4866

This is one of those times when you fall back on your police armourer buddies to look after your S&W!

Savage and I believe Remington use them, among others, cheap, but they are terrible to deal with and take forever, I had one of the savage 10tr with bent barrel, took over a year and still no fix, so had to rag on savage till they gave me a new one, 15 months all together! Plus I had to pay the shipping to grech! A list of very good gun smiths who specialize in smith and Wesson would help!
Wow, I had no idea they were anything but a Mossberg service depot.
Must be good at something. Self-promotion?

yeah, I'm not so sympathetic to Murray's "ordeal". It is well deserved.
I have sent a rifle for service and had no feedback until I contacted the american manufacturer.
Murray has been sitting on this rifle for almost a year to the point I didn't want it any more.
Kudos to Weatherby for refunding my money while Murray slacked.
