   So...I burned 70 bucks worth of ammo in the 7/08 mountain LSS today trying to nail down a factory moose load. Had high hopes for the 140 failsafes (Anybody have good results with these bullets? Please pass on your experience)

Huge groups with partitions, ladder groups with the failsafes.

Just pulled apart the gun to adjust the trigger some, and for some reason....my forward action screw was LOOSE! LOL...think this might account for the 4+" groups from my 1/2 min rifle?

Now I gotta buy another box of failsafes........

Check your screws!

Ryan

I don't think Failsafes are notorious for their accuracy.

I'll bet the action screw had something to do with the bad groups, but you might want to spend your loot on some accubonds or partitions instead... Federal loads both, and either would make a stout moose round.

You may even find that the Accubonds shoot to nearly the same POI as the BT's you had good luck with.

A few years ago a buddy tagged a 53 inch bull at 325 yards right under his nose and into his chest(facing him)He was using a .300wm with 165 gr failsafes. The bullet srtuck high dead center veered downward and exited just forward of his ####. Everything was soup inside:D

I CAN'T FIND FACTORY ACCUBONDS!!! SOMEONE HELP!! (please)

Do you have any buddies that reload?? For $70 you can buy a box of accu-bonds, powder, primers and use your once fired brass and still have enough for lunch:D

I think I can top that.
My .22 was shooting beautifully off the bench and then it started putting them all over the target.
Couldn't work it out.....until I fired a shot and scope fell off!
Dovetail mounts had come loose and needed some Loctite.

Yours may've cost you $70.
You didn't have 10 complete strangers standing behind you when it happened........ :(
I got some very odd looks.

Don't worry you aren't the first guy to have similar troubles sighting in a rifle... ;)

I took a 375H&H to the range a couple of weeks ago to sight it in. I wasn't impressed with the groups, and later found out that I had failed to tighten the rings down. STUPIDHEAD!!

I rectified the problem and got immediate results.:dancingbanana:

I never had any problems with groups shooting Failsafes from my 300WM's. I still have a few left but switched to Winchester Supreme Partiton Golds (180gr) in 1997 with the new 300WM. Since 2004 now shooting Accubond CT's in my 300WM and 270WSM, and since last season, reloads of the Accubonds.

With the factory ammo I was getting anywhere between 5/8" to 1" 5 shot groups.

If Failsafes dont still group , try the Accubonds CT's or PG's if available for your 7/08. Could be your rifle doesnt like the Failsafes. Thats like my friend's Sako m75SS 300WM, shot TBBC good at 100m, but was hitting the dirt and 300m, where as my rifle (identical) shooting the PG shot good all the way out to 500m. My buddy switched to PG, and his rifle shot almost to the same results as mine.
Good luck in yor quest on your new 7/08
