Okay, fellows I need your help. I'm a guy that usually does most of my hunting with iron sights or with cheap fixed magnification scopes (usually Trashc...I mean Tasco or Bushnell's Walmart brands :D).

Anyways, I am looking for a variable scope that will be mounted on either my .243 or my .30-06, that I can pick up for a price that won't break the bank (typical, I know). The price I was looking at was no more than $300, with the $200-250 price range being ideal. Why do I want a variable scope? Well, I do various types of hunting that cover a wide range of shooting distances. I do some "close-up" hunting for things like caribou and black bear, but mostly I hunt seals on the ice and shots can be 200 yds plus at times...and a seal's head can look pretty damn small at those distances. So variable is a must!

Any help would be great...thanks in advance! :)

well you could look at a Bushnell Elite 3200 3 - 9 X 40, here in the Montreal area you pick them up for about $250.00 NIB or you could look at the exchange section on optics, I'm sure you will find something that will meet your needs.

By the way I would not call Tasco "trash", I have a 3 - 9 X 42 Titan in 30mm tube and it's as clear as an Elite 3200.

That's one of the reasons why Bushnell when they took over Tasco, they eliminated the Titan series

I know, I know...but the Tasco scopes that I have tried have been the lower end (extreme lower end) versions and haven't been all that great...to put it in a nice way. :D

I was wondering about those Bushnell Elite 3200. What's the warranty on those like? I have heard about the Leupold lifetime warranty...but what about the Bushnell?

Elite series = lifetime warranty (even their lower end scopes carry this warranty) I had an issues with their $50 scope, they simply gave me another one on the spot without any questions asked (i live close to their warranty depot)

Thanks for the input fellers, but I think I'm going to try a Mueller either the 8.5-25x44AO Tactical or the 3-10x44 Tac II. I'm leaning more toward the Tac II at this point even though it's a little more than I was wanting to pay...I have read that they are an awesome scope. Hell, anything that can take a pounding from a 458 Lott and come out a-ok is tops in my book! :D
