I was a big box outfitter store yesterday which shall remain nameless (but the name may start with a C) and got talking to the young employee about the lack of 7.62x39 ammo there. They have spots to put it, just don't have any.

He told me that they had no idea if they'd ever be able to get any more SKS in since Tula Arsenal had none left. BS, or is there any grain of truth to that?

Well, they were never coming direct from Tula. I have no idea of there are more out there to be imported or not. For a business like that it'd be more a question if they can get enough of them to be worth their while at a cost where they can sell them competitively. A big box retail has a lot more overhead than a tradex.

Jean Plamondon (I think) or John from Marstar, made a comment a few years ago that there were lots of Mosin Nagant variants left but the SVTs and SKSs were starting to dry up in European warehouses.

Rumor has it that the US and some other nations are paying some of the European nations with stockpiles to destroy them.

I think it was John from Marstar that was in Greece last fall and witnessed the destruction of a large quantity of new in wrap Manlichers in 6.5mm. He mentioned that it was financially more expedient to destroy the rifles rather than offer them on the surplus market.

I guess not enough "Baksheesh" was offered or the bureaucrat was running scared????

The surplus ammo is made by S&B, so once again the big box goobers are full of it. Go figure. I can't even repeat the garbage I heard about SKSs at Wholesale Sports in Regina last time I was there.

While there is a lot of surplus rumors about the shortage of 7.62x39 ammo right now, there seems to be a plentiful amount of exterior byproducts of male Bovine animals.

Not to say that it will not become scarce in the future, (witness the .303 surplus ammo that was once plentiful,) but it will be a while before the 7.62x39 ammo reaches that point.
