Okay, i'm confused, so i'm gonna ask my question very simply and hope for a yes or no answer :)

I have an MandP pistol, and i've cleaned the slide with hoppes 9 and oiled it with hoppes oil, my question is simply, worst case sinario, can i just use a few drops of hoppes oil in the slide grooves and on the rails .. or do i need a more robust oil?

The only reason i ask is because i have oiled the rails and slide grooves with hoppes oil but it just doesn't seem to be thick enough to protect while the slide moves back and forth, but I am very new to owning a pistol.
 
Hoppes Elite is a better oil. The regular hoppes from canadian tire or wally world may not stand up too well. So I would say yes spend a bit more for one of the advanced sythetic oils.

Yes. Most semi-auto's are not meant to have more than a drop or so or they gunk up and can affect function. These grooves are one place fouling can build up quickly.
 
You just need a light coat of oil on the slide rails,just enough so that you can see a "sheen". Some pistols run better "wet" but the M&P is not one of them. You should also have a very light coat on all metal to metal contact points. The oil not only lubricates the action it also traps and removes dirt and makes cleaning much easier. If you are shooting lots of rounds you can always add a couple of extra drops during you session.
Search the forum and I'm sure you will find info on the relative merits of grease versus oil on the slide rails.
 
Put one drop in each rail groove, then stand the slide on its end so gravity pulls the drop down the entire groove. It may take a minute to flow all the way down, clean something else in the meantime.
