Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and words. It is quite a sobering realization to know that I am the only one left who knows many of his stories. I really need to write them down, regardless of how fragmented they may be. Here is the full obituary for those interested:
Harold Oliver Jackson (1919-2013) died peacefully at North York General Hospital (Toronto) on July 31st, 2013. Harold was born in Dundalk, Ontario, the eldest of 7. Left to mourn his passing is his beloved wife of 64 years Bertha (Hunking), and 5 devoted children Ruth, Philip, Mary Lou, Lois and Janice. Loving father-in law to Richard Lougheed, Nancy Jackson, Shane Willms, Ken Johnson and Dean Treasure. He will be forever missed by his 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and his large extended family and many friends. He is survived by his siblings, Bill, Marjorie Gillies, Hazel Gordon and Jane Seeley. He is predeceased by his two brothers Ray and Glen. He served his country in the Carleton and York Regiment, and was in active service during WWII from 1942–45. He is a member of the War Amps of Canada, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 in recognition of his contributions to Canada.
