Speak up, by all means, but don’t get offended/aggressive/angry when there are opposing views. To be clear, I’m not accusing you of doing so bcbravo2zero. I’m surprised that this thread has remained civil overall to be honest.
I support what MEC is doing as it is not anti-firearm but pro-gun control & anti-NRA. I agree with gun control and think we in Canada have found a very healthy balance now that the long-gun registry is gone. Are there some things I find arbitrary and silly, absolutely (barrel length with no consideration to overall gun length in handguns), but overall I like the balance we have. Do I believe gun control prevents violent crime, not a chance as that’s cultural, but what it does do is push education thereby influencing culture. The CEO of MEC, if you read through the interview, is pro-gun provided reasonable controls are in place.
As to the NRA, I have lost all respect for that organization. They used to be a top shelf grass-roots educator, organizer, and sanctioning body. As their specific shooting sports have lost popularity and attendance has shrunk they’ve evolved into an industry lobbyist group first and everything else second. The leadership is opposed to any open discussion of gun control and goes to great lengths to prevent non-conforming ideas from taking root. If enough companies pull Vista’s products then Vista may stop supporting the NRA; do that enough and the NRA is forced to evolve.
I realize that mine may be a minority view in this forum. I also respect the views and actions of others who disagree as long as they are presented in a civilized manner.
