A sudden interest in buying a SKS, bare with me.

Sorry if i am being a newb...but I thought Russians had non chrome bores and the Norinco's had the chrome bores? Russian with chrome...sounds like best of both worlds

$200 for 1120? Where at?

The early Russians from 1949 until about half way through 1951 had the non chrome barrels then they switched to the chrome lined... these early models also had spring loaded firing pins, not sure why they stopped producing the springs?..... cost factor maybe.

I own 3 russian SKS's - a 51' Tula with a choat mounted 10x40 Bushnll Elite Tactical, a 54' Tula safe queen, and a 54 Izzy safe queen. Both queens are hardwoods in dark stains and possibly unfired.

1 new chinese military from Marstar.

I've never shot the Chinese version, but based off visual inspection, bluing of steel, quality of wood etc... it's just not nearly as pretty or as well put together. The gas tube has way more play and wobble in it than my Tula (which has over 2,500 rounds through it), and i mean face it - the baynet isn't nearly as cool.

lebaron 1320 for $204.45, i got some last year when it was $192

Yeah I heard about that deal. I can never find it on there site tho. Do you gotta call? Also shipping probably kills eh? (sorry I am kinda getting this thread off topic)

So 51+ Russian should be chromed? Sweet! Those sound like they would be the ones to get

I have both the russian and the chinese, i like the russian better because i know i have a quality arm in my hands and it will neverlet you down, The chinese looks abit cheaper but the finish of wood is nicer and is abit lighter weight which i prefer. But when i think of china i think of cheap quailty. Both shoot good. Go with both since the prices are pretty low on them. Its your choice.

Can I stop at just one? :p

IF you are strong minded,maybe...more than likely there will be more than one.I started out with one,not really convinced or knowing what to deal with-just a semi auto rifle dirt cheap....well,now I have five and one of them is under permanent construction (trying out everything and more),one is bone stock as it came but a 3'@100yd shooter and 3 are just to have it-all russians (collectibles?)...so,once you got one-watch out! :D

When I first got my SKS, I didn't know anything about them and got the first one on the shelf. The rifle turned out to be a great shooter. The trigger has no creep at all and breaks at 1.9pounds. It scares the hell out of you sometimes not expecting it to go off. Anyways, it’s a 1950 Tula SKS Laminate stock and obviously a Frankenstein gun with many miss matched parts. Paid $150 for it, this was a mistake on their part because they forgot to take the boxing week sale tag off it and sold it to me for that price anyways.

I've read an article about the SKS how if a company like say Springfield decided to re-create the SKS down to spec, they would have to sell it for at least $800-$900 to make a profit. Goes to show the quality of craftsmanship that went into these rifles. The article also said to stay clear of the commercial civilian model SKS because their quality can't match the military grade ones.

I've also fired hundreds of rounds of corrosive ammo through my russian SKS and I've had no corrosion problems. If you want an SKS that will last forever just get an extra one and keep it clean and safe in your gun locker.

Its on their site, in the specials section, shipping not issue for me as its 15 min drive

When i got my sks,a used 53 for $100 people told me why buy that crap, its a cheap rifle thats alot of fun and i have been told its good for hunting.

You dont have to spend huge amounts of money to enjoy shooting and i bet you the sks will outlast most expensive rifles. I really enjoy shooting my sks and have put more rounds through it than all my other rilfes

I have 2 Russian's -51 hardwood, 52 with -they seem to be quite well made.
I plan on getting a chinese model when the opportunity arises but I only see russian models available right now. I would like to mod one up to take a interchangable mag but can't seem to come to terms with altering it.-hence a need for yet another

Marstar has a good deal on Chinese Type 56's ....i bought one from them very well built and works just as good as my Russian Tula 53.

Got a pair of chinese ones from marstar, both have a nicer trigger pull and nicer wood than my tula. All are fun to shoot...

I have both too, but I find the triggers on the Russkis are hit and miss, both on sks and mosins. A couple of mind feel like they have cookies crumbs impregnated in them, though they are clean. All my fortune cookie ones (the chinese) are pretty consistant, in feel, quality, triggers and accuracy. Probably the refurbs were in such varied condition, originally.

My preference is Russian, its just a nicer rifle overall. But, both shoot well.
I have two non-refurbs and one refurb "shooter" that I bubba'ed. They all serve a purpose in my collection. I would suggest you handle your SKS before buying to ensure you are getting what you want. There are big variations in condition, and you never know what you're going to get when ordering online.

I've got one of the norinco sks's, love it, i had 3, traded two away and am now looking at getting one of them back, lol!!! shoot surplus ammo and just clean afterwards, it is quite a bit cheaper and being semi-auto you'll go through ammo pretty quick. My plan is to have one just plain-jane, and one done up, new stock, scope, bi-pod.

Buy one for sure!, i have only a russian refurb with laminate stock right now, works good!

make sure you buy a few thousand rnds of surplus ammo now while its cheap!

1951 was the transition year... Some have chrome and some have not.

I have a Tula 1955/56 and I love it.
Now I want a Yugo M59/66 and after that, maybe a Nork... :p

The only problem with Yugos is they are not chromed...
Who cares !!! I have my ruskie !!!

As others have mentioned Russian SKS Rifles from 1951 are transitional so some are Chrome and some are not but not having a Chrome barrel isn't a bad thing as long as you clean them after a day at the Range.... it should out last you. I think Countries went with the Chrome because under War conditions it may be days or even Weeks before Soldiers could sit down and give their Rifles a proper cleaning, the Chrome just helped delay corrosion a bit longer.
