So while sitting in my truck eating lunch at noon yesterday I look up to see a doe bolting 30 yards in front of my truck, on my property. I jump out and grab my rifle which is on the ground beside my truck. This area has numerous small clearings and trails. A few seconds later this guy comes bolting in front of me following the doe into the bush heading for the next clearing. Understand I’m 71 years old with bad knees and wearing heavy hunting boots (Redwings). I sprint 120 yards into the next clearing and I’m able to intercept the buck who stops at about 8 yards, head on looking at me. He spins and runs for the nearest bush 20 yards away, I managed a short range running shot with my 30-06, he drops immediately. Not the biggest buck, but big enough for me. Getting the buck isn’t what surprised me, running that far, that fast in those boots is, my wind wasn’t even affected. I send my son a BBD message, he gets there with a smile and states BBD means a big buck down, not a baby buck down. Just a great experience I thought I’d share.
