A tale of over thinking?

Soooo been reloading for a few years and recently picked up a rem 700 SPS tactical in 223.

Trying to get the right load I worked up with 52 gr SMK and H335, 100 rounds or so with no real good results, switched to 69gr SMK and varget, another 100 rounds of different charges and no real good results. All these were weighed 1 at a time, started min, went to max, found a node, or thought I did, worked around it and lost hope lol. All on a single stage, measured and checked.

Last week I picked up a dillon 650 Xl. 50gr noslers, rem brass. I have a CZ so I figureded I'd load 100 rounds at 24.8 of H335 and see what happens. Well f**k me. 5 round groups, back to back lol.

Best results from the 700 to date. 100 yards and a little breezy. What are the odds I stumbled on my load lol?! Gonna try 300 yards next time out.
 
Some of my better groups were with Nosler BT's VS other brands match bullets in same gun calibre.
 
I've got a rifle that I worked pretty hard to find "the load" for, without a great deal of success. Then one day a shooting budddy let me try some of his reloads at the range - and there it was - "the load". Different powder, different bullet than I would have tried, but that rifle loved it.

Sometimes you get lucky. Don't question it, just enjoy it while it lasts.

I've got the same rifle as you have. I've been working up a load with the 69's and H335. Likely won't be of much help to you, but the sweet spot seems to be around 23.9gr of the H335. This is in federal brass, CCI 400's, and COAL of 2.26". This combination was giving me about 0.07" (and sometimes less) of vertical spread at 200 yards. I'm going to finish working this load, and one for the 55gr VMAX's. Then start on a varget load for winter use. Damn Varget is about $6/lb more.

yep, its definitely on the slower end. I don't have a chrono but the Sierra manual says I should be somewhere around 2700fps out of a 24" barrel, but mine is only a 20" so I am assuming it will be a little slower yet. Hopefully I can speed it up with the Varget, and don't run into the problems you've had.
 
Actually, I was working on the higher end with varget and had no luck. Also going to try some varget and 69's but stay on the lower end.
