A Tale of Sako, S&B, Bad Luck and Customer Service

Sako Bavarian Carbine in 30-06 with Sako low QD mount/rings.... no ejections issues with mine whatsoever! I really hope this doesn't become a lame "I hate {fill in rifle brand here] thread"... because such threads NEVER represent the majority.

No one says it happens to all Sakos, but it apparently happens quite often. All about geometry, you have 1 inch scope and due to the scope eye relief the turret is further back than mine. What is the distance between the front of the rear ring to the turret? Could you compare the sizes to my setup?

I've often thought that the windage turret on scopes should be on the left hand side of the tube, it would make for easier adjusting on the bench being able to reach both knobs with the left hand and being able to hold the rifle steady with the right, for right hand shooters anyways. I mounted a scope on a .22 and rotated the scope 45 degrees and found that it worked great.

I loved everything thing about my Finnlight except I was getting failures to eject and bent cases as well. It was the nicest shooting rifle I ever had but had to send mine back to Milarms (who where wonderful to deal with also :)

I sent my .270 off to several gunsmiths and no one was able to fix it, not even Stoeger.

I won't be buying another Sako anytime soon...Browning or Savage instead. I hate half engineered junk and I'm seeing more and more of it these days!!!!

Most rifles eject sideways. Sako's raise the case up to much before ejecting out to the side. I just scratch my head when I hear of people WANTING to use a Sako action in their custom rifles?? Why?? Do they just not know better or am I missing something?

I was talking to both Sams. Junior Sam was the guy who talked to Stoeger. He refereed to the older gentleman as a "big boss", so I'm guessing its the Senior Sam.

Regardless, I don't want to deal with you anymore. I bought a $2000 rifle from you. I had nothing but trouble and zero help. I went to you with my problem - didnt you rush to help me? No you sent me to the distributor, I went to Stoeger, you said you will call them before I come. I came 3 days later Stoeger had NO CLUE about me, I don't care who called or missed who.

I drive all around and presenting to everyone like a fcking clown with my $1500 scope $2000 rifle and branded $150 rings. And after all that when Stoeger says "yes its our fault, we spoke to the store we are crediting them go talk to them" I expect UNDERSTANDING and wiliness to accommodate a customer. I can't care less about annual profit margins. I bet every single penny of my $2000 I've paid you worked flawlessly on you bank account. You are a retail joint you are in a customer serving business, but you act as you don't get it.

Anyway, I don't have to deal with you, you don't have to deal with me anymore. We will work it our with Stoeger. Thank you for responding to a thread on a public forum.

Sums things up nicely. As others have noted, well written.

I have owned many Sako's and the only ones to give any grief what so ever were the two 85's I had. I would not hesitate to buy an older "A" series or 75 but will not own an 85 again. YMMV.

Supporting dealer or not. Wake the phuck up AL Flaherty's. You guys need to respond to this. I know that every retailer has their " terms and conditions" but exceptions should be made in cases like this. Ok CGN sweep it under!

There is also a very positive part of the story, how about that:

Wolverine Supplies = awesome service

Just saying, its not all bad, also pictures are pretty too :)

I've probably owned 35+ model 700 with no issues to speak of. I've owned one model 85. And won't own another.

I've owned 4 Rem 700s with one having major issues right out of the box. They were fixed by a gunsmith that Remington told me to send it too, free of charge, but it took 8 months so I was not exactly pleased.

Bad products come out of all factories.

I'm not sure Remington made even 35 model 770 rifles that didn't have issues. The 710 also screams quality. Not to mention the "Remlin" fiasco, the model 870 Express models which are too rough to reliably feed, or their cast bolts which break, or the broken off bolt handles on 700s. I also seem to remember something about 700 triggers...

As far as Leupolds go, it seems Korth gets mentioned here about every week.

That said, I wouldn't generalize and say all Remingtons nor all Leupolds are poor products. I've owned many of both which have been fine. I've also had problems with both.

Fwiw, the only 85 I would own is a Kodiak, but I recognize that the vast majority of Sako products are absolutely "top drawer".

For you to generalize though and say, I quote "#### Sako and #### S&B" is at best, disingenuous.

Dear owlowl
I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience at our store
We have not been in business for as long as we have by treating customers poorly. This is how we continue to do well, despite the onslaught of large box stores moving into our area.

Its unfortunate that you feel so strongly about shopping with us again. I can assure you that if you had asked to speak to the store manager, the situation would have been resolved in your favour.
We have a no refund policy on firearms, and our staff are instructed to follow this policy, however given your circumstances, you should have received a refund.
I am happy to remedy the situation with you. Please feel free to give me a call at 416-651-6436 in order to ensure that I am present when you return.
Thank you
Domenic

That whole things is a serious bummer but aside from Flaherty's the customer service has been exemplary which has to feel good.

Very well written. I'll be looking forward to seeing how it works out. I do agree that you must have been very, very poorly behaved in a previous life.

It would appear if you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck at all. I can say i own 2 Sako rifles, both L61R models and wouldn't sell either one.
