This thread is going to be one to pay attention to.
I already stated in another that I would buy and tune a box stock norinco m305 to as close to MOA as I could get it for under 1000.00
Rifle is ordered and enroute.

But.... Let's make this even more interesting...

I am also going build up and document an LRB M25 receiver using nothing but the choicest of parts.

Don't expect constant updates, this is going to be time consuming.
I do have adequate internet access by satellite service now so getting the pics up shouldn't be difficult.

So, thus begins the tale of two rifles and hopefully when I am done, folks will have some good info prior to making that decision between a high end rifle and an affordably tuned norinco, and what happens on the bench to get us there.

Thomas, thanks for posting. Just what I need, more "rifle envy". Lots of detail please....make me suffer...

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."
Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

Thomas, I know you have some other things in life far more important than firearms (especially the M14 platform) but there are a lot of members out West could use some help / guidance from you since you stop taking on jobs?

Are you willing to come back and work on our guns on an individual basis?

Can you PM me your address again and I have something new want to share with you?

I might have you already beat Doc. I purchased the best M25 (almost) money can buy a few months ago. I didn't get the lugged receiver. but It has a kreiger heavy barrel, and USGI parts. All NM mods and components. I have a mcmillan M2A stock on order. I'm hoping around the fall I'll have the stock, can finally get it bedded, and start load development. But I'll be happy to compare results.

I don't think I will be working on rifles for the general public professionally (for money) in the forseeable future. Unless an established shop wanted me to work in house. so far my only offer is in Texas and while the wife would love to move there...... they don't have moose and steelhead in texas :D
I would enjoy being able to offer my household shop to guys on a drop in basis as barney does out east.... But I am now "very" far off the beaten path these days. Logistically it's just become to hard for me to be able to do clinics or operate as a legitimate business where guys can expect top notch service along with the top notch work.
There has also been an element on the internet that has never been able to accept my presence in the M14 community that is not always visble to most folks here. Heating up everytime I've contemplated doing clinics outside BC. I've had too many WTF moments over the past 3 or 4 years that to avoid having such moments... My misplaced perception or not... I won't be offering clinics anymore. Logistics however play a more important role than my WTF moments on the internet.

Please enjoy this thread for what it is. It is not a comparison between norinco and LRB. They could be any brand.
This is an example of what to expect from two rifles, one built on a budget and one that is not.
Cheers guys

I'll start with the LRB , itemizing the parts and prepping for the build. Updates to come

The LRB M25 receiver and the parts she was sent to me with. Here I am able to pick and choose from all the parts pictured, selecting and rebuilding each major component instead of force matching a small collection of parts which is often the approach with builds like this in Canada due to lack of parts reserves.
I'm itemizing and will post the parts descriptions shortly

provided for the build we have:
2 complete bolts, one is a used TRW usgi m14 bolt and it's internals, second is a new untouched LRB 11 bolt and it's internals
2 oprods , one a used HRA usgi m14 oprod with acceptable wear and second is a new untouched RWB oprod (commonly used by many U.S. rifle builders)
3 trigger groups, all three are usgi m14 comprised of a mix of HRA and TRW parts in moderate to excellent used condition
a set of SEI crazy horse trigger pins and springs
2 gas systems, one is usgi , other is new 7.62mmfireams
one 7.62mm firearms Ti piston
Sadlak NM spring guide rod
Krieger 18.5 chromoly short chambered medium contour M14 barrel
new pins and springs all around
selection of muzzle devices from smith enterprise , coast guard brake, direct connect Vortex and not shown is a castlenut retained vortex with the front sight base
smith enterprise gas lock dovetail front sight for 18" barrels
smith enterprise tactical bolt release and pin
and also not pictured is a A++ condition usgi fiberglass stock and handguard set and what I believe is a rooster cheek rest assembly
2 USGI rear sight sets
1 M!A rear hooded NM aperture

did I miss anything ? hehehe
there will be no optics mounted for the purposes of this thread.
there will also be no reloaded ammo used for the purposes of this thread. to maintain a base line, all testing will be done with federal commercial ammunition, type to be determined.
