a thought on 10 rounders in an m14.

I just called Marstar and ordered two of these mags this morning. They did not mention anything about being sold out and their site shows them as being in stock. I was told my order would ship next week!!!

If these babies work in my M14 (all legal and everything) I'll be jumping for joy! For my use (truck gun/hunting rifle/do anything you want rifle) ten round mags are actually ideal; even more useful that a 20 rounder (if I could own them legally) as the 20 rounders are just too big for practical use beyond the range (yeah, I know others will dissagree, but there it is...). I was actually pondering saving up for an AR180B just to have a handy semi-auto that could make use of ten roung mags (did I mention I freaking HATE five round mags!), but if this all works out, it'll be a couple more AIA mags and some more .308 ammo instead!

Damn, I'm excited!!!

From Marstar's web site: "Genuine Australian International Arms mfg. 10 round magazine designed for use in all AIA M10 B series rifles chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO. Competition grade hard chromed follower for enhanced smoothness and reliability. Will not fit in any other rifles."

Not at the range yet, but...I just got my AIA Enfield mags. Fit nicely (snug and firm) into my M14 and I was very happy with the quality of the mags. I just couldn't resist loading a few rounds into the mags and cycling them through the rifle (I'm out in the country...). Rounds cycled flawlessly, so my hopes are up that I can hit the range this weekend and that the mags will work. Man am I excited. Seriously, for me, legal 10 rd mags for my M14 would have me jumping for joy for days! I'll let you guys know how things turn out. And just to be clear, I'm not drilling holes or anything in the mags...just take a legal, CFC approved, mag out of the wrapper, load it, put it in the rifle and fire. That's what I'll (hopefully) test this weekend.

so...... i may have missed it but..... where does one find these mags for purchase? Marstar doesn't list as a seperate item.

Okay fellows, before I head to the range this weekend I'd like to be able to print out the related legal info on these AIA mags, just in case I need them at the range. I've been searching on the web and I must suck at it because I can't find what I am looking for. I see quotes once in a while on the site with mostly what I want. There's one earlier in this thread, but it's too short and if I just print that off, it probably won't stand on it's own. If someone can send me the info (make a post on this thread with it) it would help and in return I'll post what I find in regards to the mags working in my M14. What I am looking for is (please excuse improper terminology as it comes up):

1. The part of the CCC (or wherever it is) that lays out what mags are legal and what aren't; basically the part that states that mags designed and manufactured for bolt action long arms do not have 5 round limits.

2. A copy of the CFC approval form thingy that they approved the AIA Enfield mags and that they are all legal.

3. Anything else that you'd sure like to have in your hand, if an RCMP officer who really doesn't like you having a 10 rd mag in your M14, is deciding whether or not to arrest you. (No jokes about a $100 bill, or a Tim Hortons Gift certificate please!)

Well I ordered one, shot it at the range. It worked. No failures to feed, it in there tight. Talked to my buddy, who's a cop, and he's saying that it's kosher. But he said don't quote him on it. You might get into "adminstrative issue" with overzealous PO's.

I make no claims that the magazine in an M14 is legal, but here's the part of the law that deals with magazine restrictions

Thanks brianp. I got it printed. Does anyone have a copy of the CFC approval form for the AIA mags specifically? I've seen some of them get posted for things like the LAR-15 pistol mags and the stubby shotguns. I could really use that as well, just to be sure. THANKS GUYS!

This is a tough one.. Would I use it? Probably...
Is it legal? sounds like we're all not to sure.

Its been said that the magazine is the regulated part, not the firearm that it is used in. With that being said, the AIA magazine has no markings on it other than a number, so it doesn't indicate what firearm it was designed to be used in.
Does it look different in ANY way to the M14 magazines?
Could be a key factor here.

Finally, if it looks identical, we'd have to see what mag came out with what gun first? the M14 magazine or the AIA magazine?

I think if we're smart here, we'll shut this thread down, even delete it for that matter and just 'remember' what works in what.
It would suck to see the 10 rounders for the AIA disappear.

There is no "CFC approval form" for AIA mags. They're for a boltgun and unregulated. Period, end of story.

I don't really see any reason to delete the thread, the AIA mags are not M14 mags, and were made specifically for the AIA enfield, which is a boltgun. They may have an origin in the M14 mag, but they weren't made for it and are technically different(don't have small rectangular cutout for op-rod spring guide like on M14). If they fit in the 14 and work, then you're good to go, perfectly legal, heck, if they wanted, AIA could make 20, 30, or whatever size mag they wanted for the AIA, and if they fit and worked in the M14, well, that'd be fun, as long as they're made for the AIA and not the M14
