I think they're hideous as can be, but about two weeks ago put one to my shoulder and wow, the level of comfort and feel right was 100%. if I were to go for one of these, what pro's/con's should I be aware of and need to consider?

I'm totally lost on what I want for a .22...Savage G, Buck Mark, CZ International, Ruger 77/22...a few others, I can't decide! (I need to start somewhere....then I can collect them all. )

I have/had a Savage MKII, Ruger 10/22 and a BMR..... The BMR is my favorite to hold, The Ruger is a fun one to "play" with and if I really want to "pip the ace" its the Savage all the way. The Buckmark action is exactly the same in the pistol and the rifle.

Factory out of the box I found the Accuracy to be best with the Savage, then the BMR and then the 10/22. With aftermarket parts (ie: barrel, trigger mech & high cap mags etc...) the 10/22 can out shoot the BMR, but the BMR needs no improving out of the box.

I do however reccomend the trigger spring flip on the Buck, cuts the trigger pull in half.

The only problem I have with the BMR is powder residue & burning powder in the face...... Not really an issue with the pistol as you hold it at arms length, but in the rifle it is half that distance. In reality it isn't all that bad, but I found Winchester Dyna Point GT to really throw burning powder at ya, and really fouls the action as well.

I just sold my BMR to a fella at the club because I have another with a heavy barrel on the way. I was told it will be here next week..... we will have to see.

In the mean time I have several other rimfires to play with.....

I reccomend that you buy them all...... shoot the crap out of them and get rid of the ones you never shoot.

I bet ya dollars to doughnuts that in the end a BMR will still be in your safe, it s a blast to shoot, and wow, really quick to the shoulder when you are walking around a gopher patch.

Cheers.

I don't own one, but a good friend does, and I love it!
I would buy one in a heart beat if I had the cash!

They only complaint I have is that you can't get a High capacity mag for it like the 10/22. That is a pretty minor thing really, as the pistol mags are easy to find.

Me and my new BM just returned from a trip to southern Sask. for some great gopher action. I only used the 38 gr American Eagle ammo and shot off 2 bricks in the one day that I used it. Mine has 5 mags and I'd shoot them all off then stop, reload them all and keep on going. I never had one single FFF, but did have the occasional stovepipe. Fantastically accurate at a variety of ranges easily killing gophers with one shot at over 100 yards. I got real good at judging the wind. i put a Leupold 2-7 VX I on mine, shot with it set on 4X most of the time.
Can't wait to use it again. FS

I should be picking up my Buck Mark Target rifle in a week or two. I have a few questions for Buck Mark rifle users:

1. What optics do you use on your Buck Mark rifles?
2. What do you find is the best ammunition that you like to use, and what do you use it for?

I was at the WSS the other day, and one of the salesman there was telling me that I probably shouldn't put high velocity rounds through the Buck Mark as he figured it could damage the blowback action. Is there any validity to what he is saying, or was he just talking through his ass?

Every .22 semi is a blow back action.....so yeah, sounds like bull####.

I have had 4 of these little rifles. A sporter, 2X HB laminates, and the ill fated CF model.

By a landslide the BM sporter is my favorite of the bunch, and is one of the very few "never sell" rifles I own.

Optics: The most amazing thing about the BMR is how quick to the shoulder it is....but this is of no advantage if you have to find your target through a high-mag. scope. Mine wears a Holosight XLP which is the cat's ass out to 70m (which is about as far as I want to shoot a .22 anyway), lightning fast on target and lightweight. Although, if they had of existed when I bought this rifle, I would have looked at mounting a Burris FastFire instead.

If you HAVE to have magnification, stick with the low power variables if you are hunting it (1.5-5 ish)

Here's mine:

Thanks for all the good info. Like a lot of you, I found Buck Mark rifle to fit me really well also. Good point about the holosight, I have been thinking about that.

This guy is using some big scope on his buckmark:

Anyone else want to share what they use for optics and ammo in their Buck Mark rifles?

What types of groups are you getting?

Well....I have only ever benched this rifle once (when I was setting up the Holo), but I was averaging about 3/4" at 50m. This could likely be improved with a magnified scope, but the BMR isn't about bench shooting.

As far as "real world" accuracy, it shoots minute-of-grouse head at 25m EVERY time :D
