Just back from the range, shooting CCI Pistol Match - GREAT ammo but we had one stovepipe each, which suggests it's shy a bit of oomph - especially at the end of the match when the pistols are getting dirty. Besides, it AIN'T cheap; $10 for fifty. So we're looking for your recommendations of who (if anybody) still makes good cheap bulk .22 ammo? What works good, what have you had no trouble with, what do you recommend?
- NOT Remington Thunderbolt. We bought a couple bricks, and traded the unopened one in on the brick of Pistol Match. Our S&W Model 41 had no trouble with it and was shooting near X-pos's, although it came home quite dirty. The Buckmark camper was misfiring it and jamming closed on FTE's, and grew a dirty great 2" skeg of lead fouling just forward of the chamber; reading further into Thunderbolt, it's notorious for lead fouling.
- NOT Winchester. I bought two 50's of their med-velocity pistol ammo for $3.50 a box, and delighted to get it that cheap; the 41 had 3 misfires out of one box, which were the first 3 misfires I'd ever encountered in my life. Later at the Women's Night the club held, they put a box of Win 555 in front of us and the 41 was misfiring so badly that I put it away and finished the day with the Model 17; it'll eat anything.
So please, what do you recommend for clean, reliable bulk .22?
